I stopped at the local gun shop this evening on my way home from hunting. It is right on the way makes it convenient. Anyway I ordered a new cva optima elite in 50 caliber blued. Has a 29 inch bergara barrel. A buddy of mine brought his up over the weekend and I shot it. it shoots very well and feels very good on my shoulder. It is the new one that will take centerfire barrels. For now just the muzzleloader but will have other barrels in the future I am sure.

Congrats on the new ML Bubba. I thought that you mentioned having a TC Encore also. Is that correct?

yes I do. I use it quite regularly but thought I would give one of these a try just to play with. I have a nephew who has claimed my sidekick and my daughter likes shooting the encore. Plus I have an omega and a traditions persuit. Can never have enough muzzleloaders. That doesnt count the sidelocks and flintlock.

My new one was picked up last night. It is actually a very nice gun. I wa shoping to get it out this weekend to shoot, but, it is a flood here. We did not even get out to hunt today well not yet anyway. It seems to be letting up some but could downpour again any minute. Maybe tomorrow between hunts I will go try it out and give a report. Not that I need the muzzleloader, but I plan to order a 7mm-08 barrel for it in the next couple weeks

Hey Bubba...How are things going with your Optima Elite? Have you had a chance to purchase new barrels like you planned? I know that you mentioned the 7-08 barrel.

I actually sold the whole package to a friend who wanted one. He is paying me monthly as he does not have a lot of money. I did not get the new barrels, but I had a 270 and 50 caliber. He really loves it and now he can hunt as he had to sell his other guns to help pay for his divorce. It shoots well and he is very happy

That's too bad...But, you helped out a friend and that is pretty upstanding in my book. Now what are you going to hunt with?

I am hunting with my encore 209x50. I have a 7-08 barrel and a 22-250 barrel for it. I prefer the muzzleloader barrel and like huntign with it for the season. With a single shot it is the same either way whether the muzzleloader or 7-08.

The Encore is the cat's meow...A friend of mine has the 209x50 in stainless...He loves it.

mine is blued with the synthetic stock. I love it. I am shooting a 240 grain round nose bullet in 44 caliber I mold myself. I also use the harvestor crush rib abots. Right now I am shooting triple 7 100 grains in 2f. It shoots well, but I am thinking of switching to shockey gold for the cleaner factor

If you do switch to Shockey Gold, let me know how it performs...I have a few front stuffers that need to get to the range and I am always looking for new stuff to put through them. Right now it is 777 and Pyrodex but that could change.

I have used shockey gold before and liked it as far as performance and clean up. The thing to remember is to get triple f cuz the double f is like tiny pebbles and hard to get through the measure
