Will gas prices affect your Deer Season ? I checked with a friend from our parish about bow hunting on their property this fall and got the OK . They have a large wooded area about 1/2 mile or less from my house as the crow flies . They have a bunch of old dirt bike trails through the woods . I will have to set up a couple scouting cameras .

Nope,
I don't go on small day trips..
I spend 2 weeks at a time and have to vist the upstate house anyways..
When I hunt the southern part of NY, I stay at family and friends places a few days at a time..
I don't use a ATV so there is cost in that....
Plus, My truck has a duel tanks (18.5 gal each). So I fill up both in NJ and then shoot upstate NY...
On the way back I stop in NJ and fill both again..

All of my hunting spots are pretty close to home so gas prices will not effect that much. I will be taking many less trips to Honoye this summer for fishing. We have already started to combine trips...for example groceries and whatever might be needed at another store instead of seperate trips. I get gas on Sundays usually and use the frequent filler club card. I am looking into Brown Gas as well as a alternative. I am offsetting my food budget with planner raising of chickens for eggs and rotating them for slaughter we are going to have 20 plus chcikens so we are going to sell some eggs as well. I am in the process of building a fenced in area for at least 1 cow and 2 pigs as well. We will slaughter all of them ourselves to save. I have a 1/2 acre garden planted as well and next year we are putting up a produce stand. We are also going to can many vegtables going forward. A went from a family of 3 to a instant family of 5, with more planned All of this though is in response to our overall health of our economy. gas prices are only a part of that. I am convicned what is happening now is fullfillment of prophesy. I think what God said will happen is happening. Jon

Whatever you do , DO NOT name the cow and pigs . You become attached and then it is very difficult to slaughter them . My 2 cents !

I am the Operations Manager for a local Grocery Wholesaler here in the Southern NY and it is scary what is happening to our economy. The garden is a great idea BSJ, I have planted a small one myself. The rising costs of food and food products is ridiculous. I talk with our buyers everyday when they try to send me 5 truckloads of dog food, yes dog food because of a massive price increase. I have 127,000 sq feet to house 7500 different items. 5 truckloads of dog food isn't one of my priorities. This is just a sample. Everything is going to smaller packaging and the price is getting larger. Just ask your wife about this new 2x laundry detergent. Great marketing on this one. Use half as much and pay $1.40 to $2.30 more for less ounces. If you weren't a comparision shopper before, I suggest you start and quickly. Just my $.02

Zemmer, I don't think people really have any idea of how much our economy is changing and what is happening to our food prices. You obviously know becuase of the job you are in.
Many things are causing our problems. Gas and this scheme of Ethonal if a major part of it.
Our Government is literally killing us. When taxes, fees, etc... etc.... become 50 % of your pay that is no longer a democracy/republic that is Socialism. This is simply a shift of your money to everyone else. It is sad what is happening but more importantly I think it will spell the end to our country.
If this country elects Obama this will only be accelerated. McCain is not much better.
Our country is in very sad shape. The thing is when people loose there jobs or money intake bad things start to happen, this is where crime often goes up.
I am really dissatisfied with what is happening.
I have just split 15 face cord of wood. I have another 15 to go. Thank God I have land of my own that I can go cut the wood from. If I had to pay for fuel oil I would have paid $4000 last year, simply stated that can kill a family.
Stay tuned though the way this country is going it is going to get much worse before it will ever get better.
The sheep will still be sheep.

Gas prices will not effect the amount of times I go hunting. I may car pool so to speak when heading to the further hunting spot...Instead of all of us showing up to camp in separate vehicles, we may pair up...Just need to handle the coordination thing and we should be fine. When hunting the close spot, I will just drive myself...It is only about 30 miles away...

Yes it wll effect me. I have a 325 mile trip to the cabin, costs about 200$ round trip. What I think I will do is make some lomger weekends out of my trip-I usually go 3 times at bow maybe go only two? Instead of a beer kiddy I will make a deer kiddy and save all my change throughout the year that should help!

I will be hunting closer to home on more state land rather than driving to camp 60 miles away. I have a buddy I hunt with most of the time and we truck pool now. I job requires use of my own vehicle for travel with 40 cents a mile reimbursement. So I am using my motorcycle whenever it isnt raining. I get 50 mph with it so it breaks me even. My truck gets 18 on a good day. I think it will be a long cold winter for a lot of people.

I'm lucky because I live right next to the woods I hunt in.All I have to do is walk down the road about a quarter mile and I'm hunting.

it keeps going down, i guess its a good thing for now. gas wont affect me, the season is short and you should enjoy it. i fill up my dodge ram in NJ on 17 either on my way up or on the way back home and i always make sure i have close to a full tank when i get back home. it pays to fill up in NJ is a lot cheeper then NY especially in NYC.
