A very good close friend of mine, Greg who I attend Church with and whom I hang out with and hunt with alot got into a serious accident last Sunday. Greg is a great Husband and Father of 5. He is a real good man and at this time in needs of constant prayers. I would ask that if you take faith in the Lord that you pray for Greg, His Wife and 5 Children. He has a brain injury at this time that it is unknown to what extent he will recover.
On monday when I saw him he was basically in a coma. I saw him again last night and he was awake and talking though it was not rational at times. But a dramatic improvement none the less from Monday. He recognized me yesterday but had no idea whom my wife is (whom he does know). He did recognize his wife though and also was able to name his 5 children. He is alive and we Praise God for that.
Greg was in a accident of no fault of his own and he hit a deer while driving his Motorcycle. (Fasteddie, this was just north of your house in Ontario)
I am leaving now to see him again. Please pray for my friend and his family.
Thanks, Jon

Quick Update: He is eating now and drinking now on his own. Standing up to take nourishment on your own is always a good thing. When I saw my buddy the last time he was a bit more rational. The begining of his sentences and ending make sense but the middle portion gets really cloudy. He knows his wife and kids well now. His psyhical condition is pretty good and healing pretty well. No timetables have been mentioned for how long he will be in there. Another very good friend of mine went to visit him yesterday and said his progress was about the same. So while he had some very fast recovery intially some of that is tapering off.
Please cherish your wife, your kids, your family. I am seeing firsthand how tough this is for him and his wife and kids.

Went last night to see Greg again. When I walked in he was walking around with a cane, that is a huge improvement from the wheelchair he has been using. He did not break any bones in his body but from laying for days he lost alot of stregth. He is regaining that well.
He knew right away again who I was and knew my wifes name this time. He was talking with many more rational thoughts and sententces. He talked about deer hunting this year and in his words saving him a spot. Told him no problem as soon as he was ready.
Reality is he is going to be in the hospital for another couple weeks. The Dr. has said it is still to early to tell how long it will take for recovery and just exactly how much will come back but it is looking at this time of a recovery of months, perhaps up to 6 months.
He still needs and his family still needs lots of prayers, so I would encourage you and ask you to please continue praying for Greg and his family.

Latest Update:
Greg started to walk around his room with no aid of the cane. He was pretty happy to show off that he could walk under his own power.
He knew his exact street address of where he lives including street number, road, and town. I asked if he knew how to get to my house and he knew the entire way minus one road.
He told me many deer stories from the multiple deer we shot last year and he had them pretty close to accurate.
He is making sense a whole lot more. He works in Armed Security and he remembered where he works, the 9 MM and AR-15 that he carrys on the job. He also told me about his furture plans that he wanted to go to school for Networking.
He now remembers that he was in a Motorcycle accident where he hit a deer. He said "If only I made another decision to go another way maybe we could have avoided this" It is obvious he is processing either the thought of a differant route or swerving in a differant direction or even not driving a motorcycle in the first place.
In his own words he explained how important it is to slow down and realize life is important and short. He explains how important that it is to love your wife, take care of your wife and love and cherish your kids.
Thats pretty speacial if you ask me.
Through it all he has maintained a great spirit and attitude. he has explained and professed his faith and love for God. He has said "this will all work out perfectly according to God's plan for his life and his families" And truth be told that is exactly 100% true.
Over all his processing is coming back. For a week and a half since his injury he is coming a long way now.
Greg has been given a tentative date to be released from the hospital on 10/24, 10 days from now. This is the same day as his 5 year old daughter will celebrate her 6th birthday. So that is great news. Our hope and prayer is his recovery will move along very quickly. He will need to go to therepy 3 days a week and the road to recovery will still be months to go.
Please continue to pray for him and his family.
Lastly for this writing, and I normally would not ask, fact is I have never asked or done this before but here goes....
I have been helping in as many ways as possible with his family, we have watched the children, helped with some money and as deer season swings into full effect soon I plan to donate my first whole deer to the family. I will cut and wrap it and deliver. I hope to help with some groceries this afternoon.
My request, if you could help with some deer, packaged I would find a way to meet with you to get it to the family. If you would otherwise be inclined for a monetary donation that would be great as well. Food of any sort that would be good to. Gas money or gas cards....etc....
This is a great family in a tough time, exactly what and where Americans want to help there fellow neighbor. So if you could help in any way I would promise to get it to the family.
Thanks again for listening to all these posts, this is a good friend of mine, he is a good Christian, a great person, loving hunabd and wonderful father of 5 children.
God Bless and Please keep praying for him. Jon

Spoke with Greg last night by phone. What a encouraging phone call it was. he answered just like his old self and for 95% of the conversation was there. He made complete sense with many of the things he said.
He now knows he got into a motorcycle accident and hit a deer.
He is now walking without a cane. That alone is a improvement of yesterday.
The hospital is discharging him on Oct 24 and I can see that as a reality now.
I quized him on math and he was right on, I quized him on family members of his and mine and he knew everything.
He was talking to me about money going to be short and things being tough. He told me about selling a extra vehichle he has and getting something small and economical. He told me how his motorcycle riding days are done.
He is thanking God that he is alive and I thank God he is alive and recovering so well at this point.
He's a bit cloudy still and will need still several months to totally recover but I am confident now he is going to do well.
It's amazing really, a week and a half ago he was in a coma.
I am confident and he is non stop talking about going hunting this year. I initially thought there was no way he would be able to hunt with a gun this year but I think a slim chance exists that he will be able to hunt with a gun this season, for sure he will be able to come out and hunt along side without a gun.
Praise Dear God for his recovery.
Let me ask again.....

Thanks Rob.
Update from last night.
They are letting Greg out this weekend on Saturday and Sunday to be with his family, he will go back on monday for a straight week of rehab and then be released for good.
He is planning on going to Church on Sunday and Praise God that will happen.
I talked again with him last night and he was very clear on many things. His sentences are making a lot of sense. He told me very clearly that he was not only planning to make it out this deer season but that he wanted to hunt with a gun. I told him to take it slowly and we will see. He has been on a mission at working hard physically to stengthen his body.
He has made a couple decisions on his own that clearly shows he is the Leader of his home and family. Very rational, thought out and his own ideas. That's great progress!
He was stuck on it for a long time last night saying he was handicapped. he indicated he did not want to be handicapped and that he wanted to take care of himself and family and wished he was not in the current situation. I indicated to him that he was not handicapped that he is not paralysed, in fact he is gaining stregth and walks just fine now. He does walk well now. I told him that he is showing great signs of his memory coming back and that he has made huge strides in just a week and a half. I told him how he was in a coma and now he has it just about down after a sort time.
No doubt it will still take many months for his complete recovery but his days look very promising.
Please keep praying for him and his family. I told him last night many people were praying for him and he said "tell everyone that you know that is praying for me that I said thank you and I need many more prayers"
So to those of you that have prayed for Greg, on behalf of him, Thank you and please do keep praying.
Jon

Chuck,
Yup same Greg.
UPDATE from over the weekend. Greg was out of the hospital on his pass they gave him on Saturday and Sunday from 10-8. Saturday we stopped by and visited for a bit and he was in great spirits and walking around. He showed me his mount of the buck we got him last year. It was a fantastic huge buck and the mount turned out great. On Sunday he made it to Church and was very upbeat again.
He is returning more and more to the Greg of old. He can see fine out of his eye, which was a question. He is healing great from his physical injuries, with the exception his knee which is hurting him alot.
The doctors have put a clear timetable on his recovery now and is 5 months, therepy 3 days a week.
He is so excited to be coming home this week for good, and I am so very happy for him and his family.
Sunday was two weeks since his accident, he has made great strides in those two weeks.
Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.
Jon

Fasteddie, yup they are working , God is great huh.
Couple clarifications, I noted yesterday that 5 months was his recovery timeframe, I was told by his wife that, that number is actually still just a guess at this point for disability purposes. It could be sooner, likely could be longer.
I also found out that his short term memory is not very good as well. He has been tested on this and has some problems with that. That could be long lasting. He does recall long term memory pretty well.
Did get great news yesterday from him. He will be leaving a day early from the hospital on Thursday this week instead of Friday.
All in all though on the road to recovery just going to be a long road.

I had a thought regarding that fabulous buck that Greg got last year. Do you know how sometimes a shoulder mount will have the front hooves underneath it, folded upsidedown? He should have had the front hooves swinging limp along the wall under the mount... ;D ;D
