I love this time of year but it gets dreary sitting indoors. The ice is no good for fishing so what does everyone else do if anything this time of year? Bunnies, predators, birds? Lets hear some ideas.
In the past I have huntes grouse with some buddies in February. Sort of a last ditch effort and a chance to get outdoors and enjoy. The last 2 years I have pursued rabbits, without a dog, just kicking the brush at my BIL's house with the .22. I'd like to get into some predator hunting but am not sure where to start with that.
So post up and let's hear what you are into and if anyone has info on predator hunting or suggestions, I am all ears.

Yea out by us in WNY there isn't a whole lot they release. When they do the only good times to go is opening weekend. After that its real tough to find birds. Opening weekend is usually during deer so i never see it. My brother usually gets a few birds from a farm near us. They set them out there in the morning and we find em...

This is actually my favorite season of the year. I like to do my favorite since I was 15... pigeon hunting and usually stop here or there and set out the crow caller. Also it's a good time to go down to my place in Eville and do some post season scouting as well as shoot some coyotes. In late January, early Feb. I take my first vacation and make a long weekend up on Lake Champlain in Rouses Point. My father lives right on the lake and we go out Ice Fishing. Last year we had about 16 inches of ice and brought in a few nice fish. If you YouTube "Andrea's First Pike", you will see the little lady bringing in a little guy

Sounds great everyone - Thanks for the ideas. Hey freak - What time did you guys go out? Just curious. I know it is dark by 5pm but I don't think you need to be out all night either. I'm thinking about setting up the trail cam again just to see if any of the boys from preseason made it through. Going to wait and see what Santa brings too as I need a 6V battery for my cam, the C's won't make it long in this cold.

Zemmer, I don't get out of work till 11 pm or later so we get out LATE.Our first set was at11:40 sat about 20 min and moved about 100 or 150 yards and tried again. Then off to a different property. No you don't need to be out all night it depends on your mood and the action and the amount of property you have. The BIL and I are going to jump some brush for bunnies in the morning can't wait ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Well things are still crazy with the Holiday spirit so I have not been able to do a thing just yet. A guy I work with wants to go for the yotes as he saw a few while deer hunting this year on a farm he has rights to. Maybe I will get a chance. We lost all of our snow here with the 62 degree temps on Sunday so I didn't go after the bunnies yet either. Boss is off this week so Im running the show and I can't wait for next Wednesday to get out and at least do some walking with the .22 or shotgun!!!
Squirrel tourney sounds like fun. Wish I had enough guys to try and do one here. I'll have to call my buddies and see if they want to go grousing soon too! So many plans, not enough time.

I am legally allowed to carry my handgun and shotgun while deer hunting, don't see why it would be any different for small game. I pretty much always have my Glock 27 or other handgun on me while hunting...Except during archery.

Gonna put some more mileage on the boots this weekend and see if I can't run across another buck or two that has hung his "hat" up for the year. I've been seeing some impressive bucks still running the propperty with quite a few half racks already.

Might be a good time to do some early shed hunting...Depending on the snow cover.
