Sunday had one goblin 50 yrds away, but wouldn't come out in the field. Decided to circle back and cut him off... It would have been sucessful, but we ended up spookin 5 doe who nearly ran the Tom over. He busted us right away and took off. This turkey was huge too, with one of the reddest heads i have seen on a turkey.

I've only gotten out twice and seriously hunted this year. This past Sunday was an awesome hunt. Here's the low down. Jim my neighbor and Glen my buddy and myself got up early to chase those d**n birds so we set up in the usual hedgerow awaiting the flydown. By 6:40 the only calling I heard was the 3 of us turkeys out there. My butt was getting sore and my legs were restless so I looked both directions and got up. I signaled to Jim and he got up and came down and then I called to Glen. They both arrive to my spot at the same tome asking me what the heck I was doing. I asked if they wanted to hit the field on top of the hill and they both said - Didn't you se that hen or hear her? I said no because I hadnt. The calling I heard below was an actual hen answering me and Jim and she was working her way right to the decoys in front of me. I screwed it all up. So we are chatting and Im getting the third degree and Jim hits the box call and all heck breaks loose. GOBBLE GOBBLE GOBBLE. We hit the dirt.
Jim scurried up the hedge about 25 yards and Glen and I sat still where we were. There was a slight rise in the field where I was so I couldn't see a thing but I could hear. GLen had a better vantage point and informed me that there were 2 toms strutting in to Jim's calls. Then he says no wait there are 3, no wait 4 of them. 30 seconds later I hear BOOM! I watch 3 birds fly away from me and 1 fly's right in front of me. So Glen and I jump the creek and chase this bird as it lands 40 yards down the field. I walked to within 15 yards of it and saw it's head sticking up out of the alfalfa and I pulled the trigger. This bird got up and kept running right to Glen who finished the job at 5 yards. So I still haven't gotten a bird but I did get an assist, lol.
Was a respectable bird - 17lbs, 5.5 inch beard, and 1/4 inch spurs.
Well we get settled down and decided to do some running and gunning on the hill. Ran into a hen I called in with my mouth call to 20 yards but no boys hanging with her unfortunately. Then we hear the boss tom on the top of the hill. This boy was smart. Had him gobbling for almost 40 minutes straight but he wouldn't commit. we decided to pack it in and headed back down to get Jim's bird and our decoys. It was about 10:30am at this point and when we got to the edge of the field we looked out and didn't see anything and made a few calls. No answer. We continue on and the Jim & Glen hit the dirt in front of me. The 3 toms from earlier in the morning were all fanned out behind our decoys we left by a bush on the edge of the field. Needless to say we got busted but all in all it was one heck of a hunt.
Probably won't get out until Sunday again. I'm not liking this weekend warrior thing but will take what the wife lets me have.
