Took tomorrow off and am going to drop the hammer on a huge tom I found 2 weeks ago.....I have toyed with him for 4 days now and think I have him patterned. he shows up on the hill in his strut zone between 8 and 9 when the hens drop into the creek bottom to head to the nest. For 3 of the days the pattern has been, I dont hear anything all morning and then a couple hens show up and the big bird starts to gobble on his own,on the hill. I have had him come part of the way but wont come thru the thick stuff. Have the strut zone marked on the gps and am going in real early to his strut zone and wait until I kill him or 12:00...I think this is going to work......We will know at noon tomorrow...
4 days to hunt and fish....This is how man was meant to live!!
Good luck everyone.

3 words.....It didnt work!!! As soon as you think you have them figured out, they mess with ya. I heard him gobble once on the roost quite a bit north of me and never heard him again....I called about every 15 minutes for 2 hours and moved about 100 yards north between sittings. Probably moved 5 times by 11:00 Then I retraced my steps, calling as I headed back..Dont know where he went. I dont think he could hear me as well as he can from the creek bottom where I usually go. I came in from the top of the hill that overlooks where I normally setup. This morning , I got up late and decided to check a new spot. Didnt hear a thing.. Tommorrow I am going to my normal spot in the creek bottom and as soon as he answers me from the hill (if he answers me), I am going to high tail it to the base of the hill where he usually stops coming .

Hunted both Sunday and Monday and had gobbling each day. The birds will answer every call and gobble at crows, gun shots, woodpeckers pecking etc. They just wont cross the thick stuff. I took my son yesterday to try to double team them and they gobbled from the roost. Usually in this spot when we find them on the roost, they will fly right down to us and it is all over. Not this time, there were 3 that sounded like Jakes and one older sounding bird. I tried everything in my vest and they would just not come. I tried going silent, no go, I tried walking away and left my son there, no go.....We finally crossed the swamp to get to them and by the time we got over there, the birds had finally wandered off. They still answered for awhile but were walking away. We messed with those birds for almost 3 hours and they stayed in the spot they flew down too. Cant figure these birds out but after resting until Thursday, I am going to try them Thursday and Friday before work and chase them until noon on Saturday although it is supposed to rain.
I will be glad it is over on Saturday as I cant keep this up much longer, I am beat...
