Is anyone planning on buying new equiptment for next years deer season? I bought new arrows and a new sight for the bow. Seems now is a great time to buy.

After 15 years with the same bow I'm breaking down and geting a new one. don't know what I will buy? Want to spend about $750 for the whole setup not including arrows. I also bought at the end of season at Wallmart a new gorilla lounger tree stand, on sale for $79 could not believe the price. If you read the stimulus bill section 789 article 6 of the "self provision law" states that those who provide for there families by means of hunting can get a tax deduction of $500 if they buy new equiptment in 2009! LOL!!!!!!!!!

Definately a new bow set up in store for this fall, and most definately a new pair of boots. Funds permitting I'd like to make an investment in a quality set of binos, but I've gone so long without them they are at the bottom of my list of priorities.

Yea i got a nice pair of bino's. Let me tell you they make a world of difference. What you think is a 4 can turn into a 6 or 8 point, iv'e had it happen to me. Burt and wooly what are you leaning towards in regards to your future bow?

Gonna take a good long look at the PSE Bow Madness XS. I like a short ATA bow for ground hunting and the performance specs appeal to me as well. Pricetag shouldn't break the bank for a new set up- hopefully it's all it's cracked up to be and feels right or I'll have to look at something else. Not sure how this lightweight will shoot for me, seems I have more control and consistancy with heavier mass weight bows. This will be my starting point but once I get to checking out comparable models that may very well change.

Right around 500 give or take a few bucks.
My days of $800 bare bones bows are over with the number of affordable performers out there. In my eyes, these are still over acheivers to what I got started with.

hey wooly and burt, for $500-$600 why dont you go with the bowtech tomkat. its comes as a package and you get all the accesories needed, except for arrows of course. finding a complete bow setup for around $500 isnt that hard to do now a days. look around and dont just settle for the first one you see. i did that and now i have a brand new martin bengal bow sitting in my closet. i went and bought a bowtech general and use that instead of the martin bengal. nothing wrong with the martin bengal i just like the general a lot more. the general was the bow i wanted but i settled for the martin bengal. the martin bengal comes fully loaded for less then $500.00 and its a really nice bow. just my 2 cents. i hope i was some help.

Hey NYBowhunter - I came across a recall notice on another site for the Bowtech General and it states the limbs can explode without warning. Here is the link to the recall. Hope you get this before you start shooting. www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml09/09132.html

Personnaly I like to pick my acesories to fit my own "package". Not saying that these bows aren't ready to hunt, but with the array of bows on the market to fit any archer or bowhunter "hot off the shelf", to me bowhunting is about a personal touch. Maybe a tweak in gear, or quite possibly a new look at a competitors competitor. Lot of times the local dealers only market a select few name brand. I'm fortunate to be in an area with some reputeable shops in competition with one another and I get to see and shoot quite a few of them. Unfortunately all the up- and comers in the market don't get the spotlight in most of these shops. $400 bow, but I hung on to the bells and whistles for the newbie. Bear Instinct Shot like a champ on a hunch for 4 bones!
