My son has 4 recurves . Two of them are Black Widows . He makes his own arrows by buying blank shafts , cutting them then milling and splicing exotic wood on each end as well as a self-nock . He then fletches them . Matt bought a feather burner and some device to grind Turkey feathers for vanes . I would never have the patience to do what he is doing . He is making a few of the arrows for a Bow Dealer and a guy at Gander Mt . He figures , if they like the arrows and put them on display , he can make and sell some of them ........... Matt sold his Compound to his youngest brother . He has 2 Black Widow , 1 Fred Bear and 1 North Winds bow . All Recurve bows ! Matt bought 100 shafts , weighed and sorted them as the ranged 350 - 500 gr and paid $170 for the shafts . He has experimented with splicing Purple Heart , Zebrawood , Wenge (?) , Babinga and Cocobolo woods . He also has a gadget that measures the spline of an arrow . Way too much work as far as I am concerned but there in nothing like killing a deer with an arrow that you made from scratch . He plans on selling some of these on EBAY when he gets going ........ Right now he is looking for a fletching jig that will fletch 6 arrows at a time . I will have to go to his house and take some pics when he has them in various stages !
