Went out this morning until 11:00. Had a button come down the hill and bed 10 yards from me. That is all I saw. Went to my usual rut stand to check it out and didnt find much rut sign. Did find that someone cut an entrance trail to their stand that went 5 feet from my tree. That kinda messes that tree up....If it's raining in the am , gonna do some scouting to the south of there which is a good funnel in the rut and maybe this guy will push stuff past me as he comes and goes....

Maybe I had put too much faith in the Accuweather Report . Last night it showed rain all day today and letting up tomorrow . Now it shows Cloudy in Geneseo and rainy tomorrow plus 20 degrees colder . Kee-rap !

I quit listening to the weatherman years ago....I lost alot of good huntin days cause I slept in and woke up to great weather. It was a nice morning in valley I am hunting. No wind and the rain held off until about 12:30 when I was scouting. Didnt see anything from the stand so it is time for a move. Found some hot scrapes and tons of fresh tracks in my new spot. I will be there in the am

Oh so close!!!!!!! Went to my new spot this morning even though it was a little windy and I really didnt expect much. Was going to sit in the tree for a couple hours then trim some lanes for the next time if I needed to. At 8:00 , a spike slowly walked along the edge of the clearing at about 50 yards. he hung around for about 10 minutes then wandered off. At 10:30 , I was about to get down and trim some lanes for Tuesday. All of the sudden this big doe comes running full tilt right at me and stops about 5 yards away. She was panting and obviously had been running for awhile. She was in the thick stuff and kept looking back behind her. I hear a grunt from the direction she came from. Then all heck broke loose. A small 6 or 8 point came running and was being chased by something else. I see a big deer running behind the small buck grunting and snort / wheezing like crazy. He runs to within 15 yards and stops. IT WAS BULLWINKLE HIMSELF !!!!! He was massive!!!!. Of course he stopped in the thick stuff where I couldnt get a shot . If the doe ran into the clearing I would have a chance...As we know, most females are uncooperative and she was no different.. She stayed in the thick stuff and took off running. The buck followed, grunting like a fool and then all was quiet.. I waited another hour then got down and cleared a couple quick shooting lanes out to 20 yards. This took awhile cause this place is nasty thick. It would have been hard to get a shot thru with the shotgun............ This was by far the largest buck I have ever seen on the hoof....I hope he is local and not one of these rogue bucks that came from miles away....Looks like I am in for some all day sits in the next couple weeks.
