Gang, New to the site, 1st post. I have been hunting my Brother-inlaws property in Schuyler county for years but finally bought my own 56 acres in Howard NY last Feb. Put a small cabin on it-a great place to be. Well this is our first season up there and it is great. The land consists of about 20 acres that was in oats for a while but now is rye. We have about a 10 acre pine forest that is a great bedding area and the rest is hard woods. All of this land in Steuben county is outrageous for hunting so much feed available. We practice QDM and so do some of the other land owners, well this weekend with just the two of us hunting we saw 12 different bucks! Spikes all the way up to a big 8pt. I shot at a 7 pt that had nice mass but missed. We saw as many does also. I have never seen so many bucks in one weekend I hope this weekend plays out the same. The bucks were all on the move following does. The rut should be in full swing by this weekend! Good Luck!

Guys, Thanks for the warm welcome! Seeing so many deer really gets your blood flowing. Along with seeing so many deer they all looked really healthy. I like to manage my property and seeing those young one's grow up will be great, don't get me wrong some of our neighbors shoot the small guys but there are enough that make it through. This is a nice site and I am looking forward to reading everyone's adventures. My brother-in-law is in Ohio this weekend hunting the rut there, he hooked up with Ludwig outfitters a true classy operation. He booked an early hunt this year and the weather was very warm, he hunted 4 days with not seeing much. So during the down time he helped out the owner with the construction of a new house well that paid off because they invited him back this weekend free of charge to hunt 3 days during the rut. Keep the faith there are still some decent people out there! Aim True and pick a spot, Burt

That property sounds awesome. Welcome to the board. You do know about the long standing tradition of inviting fellow forum members to hunt with you, right? ;D

Very funny!!!!! I tell you what, I have one Pope and Young deer to my credit after I get one on this property you can get an invite. Most of the time it is just the two of us hunting. We set up four stands on the property so two are always empty. Yes the land is great, we have the pine bedding area but on the north side of th property is a swampy mixture. My property runs about 2100' along this area which is another great bedding area. All the bucks were either with does or checking out the pine and/or swamp bedding area. We were moving a stand last Sat around 11 after taking it down out of the swamp comes two does running right at us. We knew they were being chased so we got down they stopped about 10 yards from us and as luck would have it here comes a 4 pt followed by a 6pt. The does busted us and ran back the way they came and the bucks followed. I have a local farmer taking care of the field, he does a great job. Last year it was in corn this year oats and rye. The great part about this is that I lease it to him which puts me in the agriculture program which in return really lowers my taxes. I get a food plot and lower taxes, only in America! Good luck hope to get the P/Y deer this year!!!!!!!
