Maybe it is because I am getting older, maybe not, but I decided over the past few days I am not going to bow hunt anymore. I think because season starts here on the Nortnern Zone on 9/27 and ends the second weekend of december, I get tired of deer hunting long before that. I have mostly used early archery season to scout and see what moves. Before I got into archery, I used that time to go out with my dogs and bird hunt. I plan to do that again next year. I packed up my pse compound and gave it to my 15 year old nephew and told him to enjoy. He will be 16 by next season ans is looking forward to gun hunting as well as small gaming. I kept my bear recurve just in case. I may hunt the 4 days in september because that is using last seasons tags and then get the new side by side out to go at it again until muzzleloading. I like a plate full of pheasant or grouse as well as a plate of venison and I truly miss it, so time to go back there for a while.

Bubba - it is your decision to make and I am sure you will get the respect and support from all the members here. Everyone has their limitations as to what drives them and how to spend their time. Good luck in whatever you decide and most of all, I commend you on following the archery tradition and "passing it on" to your nephew. Thats what it is all about.

Whatever makes you happy Bubba...I enjoy archery more than gun season but I don't own dogs that I could be running...Good luck. BTW, what a nice thing to give your PSE to your nephew.

well he is more of a son than a nephew. His dad decided to start a new family and pretty much abandoned him a couple years ago. He knows his old "uncle bubba" yes that is what he calls me lol will be there for him. Where I go he is there. I have gotten him a model 7 in 7-08 for deer and a huntsman muzzleloader. I gave him a shotgun that was pretty beat. He had a chance ot trade it toward a better one and asked if I minded. He is a great kid. To show how much of dead beat his dad is. He has no contact with his son because his son tells him how it is with the new family so he wont talk to his son until he apologizes for disrespecting him. He was invited to his grandparents for a family christmas get together on this sunday. His father wrote him a letter saying due to the friction between them, he shouldnt go. When his father heard he was going anyway, his father isnt going now. Real mature huh. I cant wait until I see him one on one face to face to let him know what a bum he is and I will let him know the old fashioned way. Anyway enough of my rant. I cant wait to get my nephew out next fall and take a grouse or pheasant over the dogs to watch his eyes light up. I love my birding and my dogs.
