for all you upstaters there is still bow hunting available in LONG island and westchester.In january there is a limited shotgun only season that runs till the end of the month.ya need a free permit thats available from the dec people.So if ya didnt fill your tags you still got opportunities to hunt before next september

and I've heard that there are some big deer on LI...Is there public land available? If so, is it overhunted?

yes there are big deer and yes theres public land and its very regulated.ya got to get a permit free from the dec its only during the week and reservations were supposed to be in .but ya can call and see if spots are open then reserve it.check out the dec page for more info.

Not going to happen...That's a 7-8 hour drive for me...If there is a place in NYS that is the farthest from LI, I am there...Maybe someday in the future. I was just curious...Thanks for the info.
