I shot a 5 point in Mendon this morning . I had passed up 6 points and under last year and got nothing . I wasn't going to go dry this season ! The property I shot it on is Bow hunting only per the property owner so we may do less gun hunting this year and use the bows during gun season ...............

Jon, love the thought, I was wondering on my way home on the train the same very thing. You also have a phase of when the big bucks will lock on a doe for 24hrs and follow her anywhere, that too will be at gun season. Yes data on buck kill and the rut also what about breeding? Let's just say the does come in on the 18th many of those nice bucks will not be part of the breeding! Are we fooling ourselves with an early gun opener? Burt

I've been out several times, but have had no luck. I had a stand hung that I was avoiding until this week. I use the steps with the nylon straps, and took the few lowest ones off to ensure no one else uses the stand. Well, I found that someone had removed a couple more of the steps, so I had to hunt from the ground. Also, there is a fresh rubline going right past my stand. Someone else put up a ladder stand less than 50 yards from mine, facing the other direction. They put up a trail of orange ribbon to mark the way in, ON PRIVATE PROPERTY!!!
Jon, do you realize how frustrating it is, to read about your "problem" of seeing so many bucks?

I took my dog out at 4:30 tonight. A nice 8 point walked right across the back woodsline. If I'd had a buck tag it would have been an easy shot- he walked right next to my target! They are definately out-stupid-looking around right now.

Fasteddide, Congrats on the 5 pointer!
Burt, - It would be interesting stuff to study....I am analytical like that so it would be really neat.
Handcannon, Yes I realize how frsutrating it is to see those bucks, cause I am out Doe hunting ;D
Yesterdays Hunt - Out at a long time place to hunt but hunted a new spot there. Figured I would role the dice.... 7:15 two Doe bolt 15 yards behind me, had no idea they were there. I managed to stop them, get up and turn aroundcome to full draw and they bolted to the other side of my tree. Let down, turn in the stand come to full draw again and they bolt. Oh well it was fun.
As I got on the ground later I look up and see yes yet again another buck. He is 45-50 yards out. I call the gun I am hunting with and ask "Do you want a smaller buck a 4 or 6 pointer" He says sure. I said ok give it about 3-4 minutes and he will be to you, I am gonna walk him right that direction to you. I walk towards the buck, he bolts in that direction. He ends up 7 yards from the guy I am hunting with. He shoots him and then we track, track, and track some more. Finally recovered him after letting him lay a couple hours. He was a 6 point.
That I think wraps up this years bow hunting for me.
Can't wait for gun to open, my wife will be hunting with me. I am really excited for that and Pray that God will give her a great day in the woods.

Well I thought my bow season was over on Tuesday.... I actually made it out for a evening hunt yesterday....
Gor in the woods later than I would have liked at around 3:45. As As I get to a tree that lloks good for a climber I get ready to get up in it when I catch movement coming down the field that is 30 yards in front of me. I am watching and this deer has his nose to the ground and is moving with no cares. I figure it must be a buck. It was. He walks up and works a scrape line. So for the fun of it I grunt at him with my mouth. He goes wild. He grunts back, he rubs various trees going nuts on them. He was tearing up the woods. Running and stomping all around. It was crazy funny but a bit scary at how wild this deer was. I mean he was going crazy. He finally runs into 5 yards from me and just stares me down. We did a little standoff for a couple minutes and then he decides to casually go on his way. He was another 6 point. It was fun anyway.
Heard some more grunting as well. That was it for last night. The does are bleating the bucks are grunting.
THE CHASE IS ON!
I was wrong by the way Charlie picked this years chase as Nov 13. I figured it was Nov 8, I figured incorrectly.....
Thats it for Bow for me, bring on gun!
