Been a odd week. Monday I saw nothing morning or evening. Weather was ok.
Tuesday the weather was dismal. Saw two doe in the morning. Weather was down right bad in the afternoon, saw two bucks then.
Last night weather was great, never saw a single deer. Was able to see some fields when ti was still light a bit and not a single deer in any of them.
Lots of corn still up and I think they might be in the middle of it eating.
Hoping for better tonight and this weekend, if the chase picks up like some are guessing this weekend I am hoping to see a few more deer.
I am starting to notice a few more car deer struck accidents but still not a ton of even those.

Good luck Jon...
We are just in from the morning hunt....I didnt see anything ...my son saw a big doe and her little one around 9:00...No shot.. The does were running from something but no buck showed.
I heard a grunt at 9:15 thought it may have been my son...But he said he didnt grunt until he heard me grunt so it must have been a buck..
Went to breaklfast and will be back out in a little while...A nap may be in order....
Good luck.

Friday night - Saw a monster buck at one of the new properties, as big as my largest if not bigger. Size of a cow. At least a 10 possibly a 12. 20 inch spread for sure. Huge body. 30 yards. No buck tag, still glad I shot that 7 point to help out a friend, no regrets.
Saturday morniong - Nothing but turkeys about 30 of them.
Saturday night - 2 bucks, a 6 point and spike horn together.
Sunday before Church - A doe, finally what I am after....75 yards and never got closer.
Saw zero displays of chase activity. The bucks together acted just like old pals.

What a weekend! Not many scrapes in my area but alot of rubs. We hunted Fri-Mon morning. My brother inlaw saw about 6 different bucks and a bunch of doe. One of the bucks he saw was a shooter at 15 yards but couldn't get his bow around and the deer bolted. I saw 4 doe and one bear. This morning was another story (I will post in my journal full story) but one of the most unbelievable sites I would ever see was a monster and I mean monster of a buck at 7:45 this morning. Too many points a perfect rack, would score 160+. Bucks are seeking right now traveling all over the place, smaller bucks are chasing does, it's about to start! Burt

Last night I head out to another new spot. This spot I have never hunted before for bow. I walk out and an getting ready to set up on a field and woods. Walking in I have a run in with Mr. Big Boy #2 for the season at 15 yards. No buck tag again but still glad I am ethical and shot that other deer to help Greg and his family.
Story is getting old though of seeing bucks and no doe.
Saw 4 doe on the way out just to far out.
No chasing activity yet but it is clear the bucks are seperate from the does. It seems like they are seeking lightly at this point. This week is going to be warm and may even stunt the Nov 8th chasing date I was thinking would be prime. Guess we will see.

Hunted last night at a spot that I relatively leave untounched until Gun season, its a great evening spot.
Had a doe come out about 1 hour before dark, same exact trail I shot a deer on during one gun season. Deer was 100 yards out. Was very spooky and nervous, ran back to the woods at one point then came back out, turned and walked right to me at 30 yards broadside. How does I know it was 3o yards broadside, because I put the 40 pin on her and it zipped right over her back.....misjudged on my part. She ran and 2 more doe walked out, she stopped with the new deer out in the field and all started walking to me again, great! They get to 75 yards and hang there to nearly dark....a truck pulls in and a guy gets out and starts walking in my direction. He spots the deer and stalks them, walks back out and heads my way to try to flank the deer. He has no bow. As I start to climb down he freezes in his tracks does a about turn and walks fast back to his truck. About 15 minutes before he showed up I heard a high power shot, either shotgun or rifle. This is not a first instince. I think some poaching is going on. Time to ask the DEC to place the decoy out, i think they can catch a poacher fast. By the time I was out of my tree and I was moving because Iwanted to talk with him he was already back to his truck. He covered a couple hundred yards pretty fast.....I'm not a real happy camper but will track down the situation.

Happens all the time by me. We have power lines going thru the property and it is a great place to shoot from the road. I hope you catch them!

Yea it bothered me Burt but I will get to the bottom of it. I know how to utilize our DEC officers pretty well. I can set this guy up pretty good. Technology has come a long way. You literally can set up a decoy yourself and tape the whole thing with a camera without to much of a investment. I think this has been happening for a couple years now. I think I have a idea whom it is. I dealt with this issue years back with a group that was smarter than this character. I'll set him up, It makes me feel really good to see scum like that fall. You reap what you sow, he will get his own in due time. I might have scared him off enough to leave that spot alone, I parked in a secret area not to be found myself, so I know for sure he had no idea I was there, meaning he does not know what to look for if someone is there hunting.....
On a positive note I was encouraged to see the deer activity I did see on such a hot day, it was near 70. The corn lot I hunted is partially harvested and partially standing, the deer have a runway beat into the mud right smack in the middle coming from the woods to the corn lot. Most sign I have seen for the entire season.

Saturday morning, it's raining so I go duck hunting. See zero ducks, that is odd. But here a buck grunting like crazy. he moves all over grunting but never shows. Saw 20 turkey as well.
Saturday night, get on stand, its a great evening and this is the spot I saw a monster at last week. Nothing at all tonight, as I walk out 3 deer are 30 yards from my truck. I would have thought about it had this been my former GM vehicle but I really like this Ford truck I have. (PS I have switched the family from GM to Ford, whole nother story) Anyway TWO are huge bucks feeding with a Doe. Still glad I shot that other buck early on..... No signs of the chase phase with these guys.
Sunday before Church, great morning. Expecting to see a bucn of movement as you can just feel it the chase phase is just around the corner....See zip, nadda, nothing!
Reports are coming in that bucks are starting to chase. It should be here this week. A little later than Charlie guessed it but still within the range. Later this week I think will be hot. We'll see.

Burt, I would almost guess more bucks will be killed this year than years previous because the chase being prime by the time the opener comes. That would be the 7th day from the Nov 8 prediction that Charlie had still a highly prime time. It woul dbe interesting (rather large project) to take the data of when the chase fell around the opener vs. otherwise date to see how that has effected the overall numbers.

I missed one thursday about an hour before i shot the 7 point. He was a bit bigger and he was chasing after this doe that blew by my stand doing mach II. SHe didn't want anything to do with him, but he was persistant.
