Well it's pouring rain here and I told all my buddies good luck holding onto their lightining rods in the woods tomorrow as I will be dry and warm at work. I miss being out there on opening day but with as cruddy as it is out, I don't feel as bad this year. Good Luck to all you guys out there and be safe as always.

My bow season was a bust. I went down to a friend's property in Lafayette this morning, in my water proof gear! As I pulled in to park, I saw three deer down along a ditchway that I had to walk down. I drove towards them to bump them away, then put it in reverse to park closer to the road. I grabbed my gear, and the Ithaca 20 ga. featherlight that I picked up in the spring. I headed into the woods to find the treestand, but I never found it. (I didn't know its exact location, just a description.) As I was walking around, I saw three sets of eyes watching me in the darkness. Oh, deer, you are going to be running scared in a few hours! I figured I better stop moving around and I sat on the ground. After it got light, I got up and easily found the treestand. At one point, I heard a tremendous crash, like a tree falling, and a minute later saw a doe running along the other edge of the woods, over 100 yards away. A few minutes later, I had two doe come in from my left. The second one looked small, so I tried to get the first one in my scope. I had to wait for her to clear some limbs, and I let her have it at about 40 yards. She fell down, but was thrashing about, so I put another one in her. The second doe didn't leave for a few minutes. Stupid young deer.... I felt pretty good about myself, so I decided to pour myself a cup of coffee from my thermos. Just as I filled my cup, I notice a buck, about 15 yards in front of me. Where did you come from? Screw it, I put the coffee down, and grabbed the gun. By now he was behind me, out in the open along the ditchway. I let him walk to where I had a shot, and fired. I think I missed, so I shot again. He dropped, with a hole through both lower lungs. Now I got another doe, walking around 5 yards in fromt of my stand! I wasn't even wearing my facemask anymore, but she just walked away. When I got to my buck, a 7 pointer, I saw another deer down the ditchway, close to my truck. It was an unbelievable morning, and I was done shooting before 7:45am.

Criminy!! Nice opener!! All I got was wet. Sat in stand for 4 hours and saw one yote. Terrible out. Heard some shooting but between 5 of us we saw zero!! Worst opener ever. First time we left early too! I am home drying out all my gear!

I see the high fence in the background, did they run far after shooting them in the pen? LMAO sorry I couldn't resist the joke. It's so not funny on archerytalk the way it pops up all the time but on the other hand it is funny. They are 2 nice deer. Time to celebrate with the Baby Ruth!!!

Sat in the tree from 5AM to 4:45pm....DIDNT SEE A THING!!!!! A few close shots but I think I was the only one there after 9:00. It poured for all but 2 hours of the 12 hour sit. My tree umbrella worked for most of the day but eventually gave in and everything is soaked....Will hit it tomorrow if everything dries out.

Actually, Joel, the buck dropped next to a ditch, and there is a tractor path running right along next to it. All I had to do was drag the small doe out to the buck, about 80-90 yards, and I drove my vehicle right up to them. I have one of those racks that secure to the trailer hitch, so I threw them in that, secured them with a bungee, and hit the road.
