Wow this is fantastic! What a season.
You all will remember that I said the other day that I saw two bucks the other day and the one left the woods dead with me. And that one was big. Well I figured these two bucks were living together.
You will also recall that I mentioned that I really wanted to make it a mission to help some youths this year. It is so very rewarding. Today I took a 14 yr old young man from Church. Great young man from a great family. I lent him my 20 gauge Remington with copper solids as his gun is a old bolt action. (felt very odd to walk in the deer woods with no gun myself, that is the first time that has ever happened since I started hunting).
I had a good feeling that those bucks for whatever reason were living together. I know strange but just the way I saw them the other day I thought we might have a chance at the other buck. I figured based on the land and the fact they were together that the other big guy might have a rather small living area. It's a hunch that paid off.
Well today at 11:00 AM that buck came into the young man at 40 yards away and he put the smackdown on him. He shot at him three times and hit him twice, the first shot was through the vitals a perfect hit and he shot him in the neck as well. As you can imagine he is one very happy young man. I was so happy for him as well and we were jumping up and down and giving great big huge hugs. You would have thought at that moment we were celebrating Jesus return on earth we were so happy.
This buck was a monster as well. A very very nice deer and very large, easily in the 175-200 LB range as well. Every tine was broken to some extent as you could tell this buck had been fighting. He was a real scrapper you could tell. We have us a little honey hole there at that spot. Not another sole hunts it. It's a perfect scenario on how they move through there and very, very predicable. The deer move freely at this spot even in the midst of gun season. Very blessed that we have this spot to hunt this year, I actually just got permission for this spot 4 days ago ;D Very , very blessed and amazing no one else hunts it or has even asked to hunt it.
What a day. That young man was so happy. I was and am so happy for him. He was so thankful. You could tell that another hunter was born today. He is hooked for sure.
He is the same kid that every time after Church he walks right up to me and asks if I will take him. I took him the other day as well when I got mine, and another time as well when we put 2 deer 10 feet in front of him ( he was looking in the wrong direction that time). He is already asking when I might be able to take him again, I said soon, but I need to take my wife again.
Still hoping we can score one for the wife.
PS, really looking forward to smoke pole season, I have the antlerless only tag I can use still for that.
Thank God again for a great day and the harvest. Thank God a 14 year old young man that is a great person really got what he deserved today. God Blessed him today in a big way.
