Yes,I am asking alot of questions. Down here in the city where I live not many people can help me with deer hunting. I was wondering about putting out a deer decoy for hunting season. Can I leave the decoy out for a week or do I have to move it often. They are adverdised in Cabelas but I don't know about buying one till I know how to use it.I only shot bucks so should it be a doe or buck decoy. Any help is appreciated. thanks

Good questions-just ask anyone in Time square and I'm sure you will get some help!!!!lol. Where are you from, I live on Long Island and work in Manhattan. I would not leave the decoy out. Take it in every time you use it. Buck decoy gets most attraction and when it does watch out. I would stick with that.

Yes i would not leave it out. Once you fool a buck once, they can become educated thus decreasing the usefulness of the decoy. Usually decoys come with detatchable horns so you can make it a buck or a doe. Just remember the bottom line is scent is everything. Make sure you don't leave any scent on it. Instructions and videos will tell you to wear gloves, spray the decoy down with scent free spray. Also you can use the scents to mimic an actual whitetail on the decoy such as doe urine or tarsal gland scent. I had a friend shoot an 8 pt last year when he tried to mount his doe decoy. Good luck

Do as the others have said and only leave the decoy out while you are hunting over it . I have had good and bad luck hunting while using a decoy . Most does will shy away from a doe decoy but not all of them . "Keep it scent frre of any human odor" . If you use any doe pee , etc , put it on a wick near the decoy . Don't set one up during gun season . You could get shot !

Don't like to lug around bulky dekes so when I use them I hide them in close proximity of my set up. I've done it a few times but the results were not worth the effort in hill country I had to carry them to. Depending on your hike you may consider the same. All above precautions mentioned by others should be taken into consideration as well. They work super some days. Seen it first hand in the backyard, just never shot one over a deke.
