I'm new to the site, but after hearing this crazy story from two separate people that live in Oswego county I had to find a forum and ask around to see it is BS or not.
They said New York insurance companies are paying people to relocate live - trapped coyotes to areas in the state with high deer hit claims.
Anyone heard of this nonsense? and if it's true and the DEC knows about it, who's with me - I'm marching on Albany!

Welcome to Nydeer ;D
Sounds like something said after midnight in a bar to me. Though there are PLENTY of other reasons to storm Albany- I doubt this is legit.

Eddie - Does this include woodchucks? Just curious why stores would sell Have a Heart traps and then have it be illegal to relocate a live animal. Guess I broke the law 4 times this past summer but d**n my garden has been producing some great Zuchini and tomatoes now that my "guests" are gone.
Kinda like the fireworks debate in NY and PA. Just over the border from me in PA they have 3 fireworks stores which advertise in NY papers and NY radio stations. But you can't buy them and bring them across state lines legally. And if you want to buy them in PA and you live there, you need a permit or license for said fireworks. Guess thats why we love this country so much, even with all the double standards.

My sister in law caught a racoon in a Have a Heart trap in Geneseo . She called the DEC in Avon and asked where she could take it to turn it loose . They told her it was illegal to transport the Racoon . A neighbor dispatched it as well as another one she caught . Basically , ya do what ya gotta do and don't tell anyone about it !

52 skunks have miraculously vanished from my backyard over the last 6 years or so. None this year- doesent seem to be too many around here anymore? They sprayed my dog 2 weeks in a row 6 years back- the second time I vowed to fix the situation. A few years ago you couldn't walk around the yard at night- just got in from watching the meteor shower- smells nice out there now!
