Since I'm rarely on here I figure I better start contributing. Got stuck working Saturday morning and didn't get in the woods until 3:30PM. Planned on being in by 2 but that didn't happen. Long story short, I was supposed to be in Ellicotville but got stuck hitting the swamps opening day. I found a nice land bridge and literally climbed up a big open tree. An hour later 7 doe swarmed around the tree and left me with many options. Since this was my first harvest with the bow I decided it would be great to get one opening day and did just that. I used my Diamond with Rage 3 blade expandables and fired a perfect 12 yard double lung pass through with a bit of heart in there. Dropped approx. 25 yards. Best opening day I have had since I was 16. Will go back out on Thursday night a bit deeper looking for that big guy.

Nice job and congrats on the doe. I guess getting "stuck" in the swamps wasn't so bad after all except for the doe that got "stuck" there as well, LOL.... Feel free to add pics, we like pictures if youcan swing it

Thanks guys I'll add the pictures when I finally get online at home. Most of my searching is done at work and I can't link anything to my PC... (don't tell my boss) Hopefully getting out Thursday after work to go a bit deeper into the hardwoods and look for some sign of a big guy

That was a state land harvest I am assuming if its in the swamps?? Congrats if it is thats awesome. State land can be tough. I have heard although some good success amongst people that hunt the swamps. I guess it is very large.

Western NY Fletch, town is called Alabama NY on the Iroquois Wildlife Refuge. D and KP it's only about 30 minutes from my house now in Amherst and close to you guys as well. My first year out there I figured during bow it would be slow which it was but during shotgun that place is packed with hunters. Tomorrow night I plan on venturing into the deep woods where nobody dares to go and try to get a wallhanger... updates Friday morning.

Thanks Eddie I have looked into it and can't find anything online I asked the tech at D1ck's Sporting goods and he said that since the blades actually slide back in after the hit they don't technically lock out. I could not find anything on the Rage website or DEC website

At thingy's and Gander Mountain , they both said that the Rage 3's are illegal but they can still sell them . A DEC officer at one of the Sportsman's Dinners said the 3's are illegal because they don't fold back . The Rage 2's are legal . If you get caught , remember , I told you so . ;D I didn't mean to hi-jack your thread ........

Yes I was told by DEC officer the 3 are not legal as well. I also had a email from DEC saying as much somewhere. Posted it last year.

Finally got a few days off... Last night hit the swamps out by my mothers. I finally decided to go a bit deeper and found a whitetail highway that just happened to be knee deep muck. After I found the perfect tree overlooking the marsh, the sky opened up and it began to hail. Twenty minutes of hail and I was in the tree. The winds then picked up and it rained for about half an hour. Not a good evening, out of woods by 4:30. This morning I woke up around 4 am to venture down to Bliss to a friends house. Whitetail heaven... 200 acres of hardwoods, tall grass and 5 ponds. Needless to say I was excited. We sat until 9:30 with little action when my friend decided to mosey and have a little push. He took 2 steps and I had a doe walk out 20 yards. I decided to let her pass and 2 minutes later sent the text out to stop moving. I could see my friend and by far the biggest thickest 4 point I have ever seen. At 45 yards I thought about shooting then decided to try and call him in. To my dismay he did not move and then chased after the doe. We then took what seemed like a 5 mile hike to check out the land and saw tracks galore. Afterwards I had remembered I left my climber on the path where I was and hiked back up to get it. Of course I left all of my gear in the truck at the house including my bow... Lets just say as soon as I hit the climber 3 monster doe jumped and I instinctly threw out a fake bleat. Every one of them stopped 30 yards away and stared for a second then took off. After that heartbreak I came back to the swamps for the evening and sat. It could not have been a more beautiful night to see nothing once again. I did kick one large doe on my way out about 30 yards from the road and tossed her a fake bleat as well... stopped in her tracks. All in all it was an exciting two days and saw a lot of action. Looking forward to Wed-Fri off to hit the woods hard. Good luck this weekend everyone.
