December 14'th,(cam's off 2 days) my 2'nd earliest pick up. Weather and the mood just seemed right today and the deer were tearing up the clover like there will be no tommrrow. With muzzleloaders sounding off within earshot, it was cool to find a way to get my hands on some horn without the drag! ;D Back home

Nice one Wooly - I've got a few pics of different ones that have shed already. Any luck on the other side?

NY Bowhunter, Bucks will shed from early December till late January. Some bucks not many, don't shed at all. We shot a giant doe(we thought) one year late muzzle loader only to find out it was a buck that had shed it's antlers. I have found shed hunting best early spring right after a snow melt. I am by far not an expert so some of the other guys may have more or different info, enjoy.

In other words , you don't want to be dragging a buck out of the woods in December or you might be holding just an antler ! ;D

No luck on the left side, reckon he's a half rack for now. My quickest find was durring regular season last week of November on another similar size 4pt side 8 years ago.
Of course with about 3-4" of snow on the ground I was looking for tines sticking up and happened upon this dude checking out all the uncovered clover dig ups.
NY 87, you start looking now so close to end of season you just may get lucky and stumble on an early find before your woodland creatures or other shed hunter stumbles on it. Most my luck is March -April when we get the meltdowns, but it's hard to say how long they've been laying there. Almost makes a fella wonder how many bucks get the pass late season going undercover doe mode to make it till next year.

Did some shed hunting last weekend after the melt-nothing. I need some advice, I will give you our set up and you tell me where to look. Our corn field has about 4 acres of corn still standing so the deer are hitting it hard. There are runs to and from the corn from standing timber and most of the hedge rows are plastered with sign. Are these the areas to look in? Are bedding areas good places to look? Help? /

Here's a very general reply. ALL OF THE ABOVE! Burt- try to figure when your bucks dropped and what part of the propperty they were concentrated in. Right now for myself it's easy to pass right by the clover fields that got burried and drifted over as the deer just stopped using them shortly after my first find. Their patterns have scince shifted to the wooded ridges with less snow accumulation and good thermal cover. While the snow was still deep their travel routes could be followed by a blind man. That led me to find #2 a small 3 pt. Following the travel routes back to the bedding areas led to another spike right in a bed. Any bucks still packing are likely to drop here where most of their activity is and has been taking place now for the past month and a half or so. Good luck man, sounds like you got a good spot and be sure to post some pics of your finds! Got some good weather and high hopes for the rest of the week. Rest your legs up for the weekend!

Wooley, Thanks for the advice! I will have two extra pairs of eyes this weekend (daughters) so maybe we can come up with a rack or two. Good luck to you too, Burt

Not exactly what I was hoping for today but he'll clean up good for a nice Euro mount. 22" main beams, 16" spread, 5" bases. Got to him just in time before the rodents chawed it up too bad.

Found him behind my mother in laws in Holland right on Rt 16. Packed with some good bucks back there but hunting is prohibitted. Obtained permisson from the landowner to "walk" in his woods but no hunting, or should I say shed hunting only. No weapons allowed.
Awesome piece of land, he owns several hundred acres so I've been covering as much as possible on the weekends.
