Opening day - Saturday - Oct 18
I saw 3 bucks and 2 doe this am and 2 doe this afternoon . It was 30 degrees where I was hunting in South Bristol . The deer seemed oblivious to me being in the ladder stand and never looked my way. One of the bucks was a spike and had approximately 5" horns . The other two were small rack 6 point bucks . The spike came within 20 yards of me and offered a shot but I wasn't going to waste my buck tag on him . By 4 pm my back gave out and I couldn't sit in that stand any longer . At least I saw something !

Monday Oct 20
I hunted in Geneseo this am and Groveland this afternoon . At Geneseo , I saw 6 doe . Three in two separate fields . All of them were well over 100 yards away . I saw all 6 deer between 7:20 and 7:45 am . Nothing after that . I left there around 11:30 . Went up to Groveland and visited my mother . Around 3 pm I went to my stand on the back of her property . At about 3:15 a doe and her fawns came across a field and entered the wooded area about 35 yards away . I hadn't expected them to be where they were and have to do some trimming in order to shoot there . I might have had a 25 yard shot if I had done a better job with the shooting lanes . Those buggers hung out back there for at least an hour . They just milled around and layed down for about 20 minutes . I heard one of them blow and they took off . A cat slowly walked through the woods . A couple minutes later , the three were back . About an hour later I saw all three walk across the back of my mother's property into the adjacent woods . I guess I can't complain about not seeing deer ! .....

I would just as soon shoot a couple of doe . My work got cancelled for today and I had intended on hunting this afternoon . Kept looking out the window and seeing the trees sway in the breeze . It was also drizzling rain so I figured staying dry was the smart thing to do . I assume the deer are smart enough to be laying low in a day like today .......

You missed a good day for sure - I worked but on the way home there were deer everywhere. Wished I couldve been out in that weather.

I was hunting in Geneseo this am . Used a different stand . I saw 4 doe and a fawn near 7:30 . They were working their way toward where I was positioned . A couple doe got within 60 yards of me . All of a sudden I saw this deer running around . Thought it had eaten some loco weed until I realized it was a spike and he was chasing the does . They didn't want any part of him and ran off . I guess if NY ever legalize Cross-Guns , i'll have to spend $1600 on a Bowtech Stryker . It shoots 405 fps and the guy at Bowtech Customer Service told my son that the guys at the factory can shoot softball size groups at 100 yards . I can just picture those does screaming ---- "incoming" ! Saw a couple more doe around 9:30 way up across the fields . NO COOPERATION !

Went out to a treestand that I had put up about 1/2 mile from my house . Spent almost 3 1/2 hours in the stand . Didn't see a thing . It was breezy and the tree was swaying a bit . I should have taken some Dramamine for motion sickness . Deer tend not to move too much on a breezy day but it wasn't doing me any good to sit in front of the computer . I was careful with trimming my shooting lanes to leave some cover and all but a couple of the leaves are gone !

I attended a funeral mass for my wife's uncle in Fairport Saturday . I don't envy anyone that hunted that day as it rained most of the time . Although the Mass didn't count towards Sunday Service , it did for me . I hunted down the road . Saw a HUGE doe at 7:45 am and that was it . She was working her way through an adjacent field and heading my way . She was upwind and never looked my way . I could see her through the hedge-row . All of a sudden she took off like a bat out of he!! . No idea as to what set her off . It was a hog of a doe ! Well fed .
I went to the same place this am and saw nothing !

I hunted in Geneseo yesterday . I set up my Ameristep Ground Blind as it was ccccccccccold out !!! I didn't get anything but I saw several deer . I sat in the Blind from 6:30 until 10 am . It was cold and I couldn't get the Coleman heater lit . It has a clicker ignition but wouldn't fire up .I saw 3 bucks and 5 doe ------ way out . The bucks are chasing the does off . I used a treestand from 1 - 5:30 . It was quite breezy . The sun helped a little bit . Saw 3 bucks and 4 doe . An ugly racked 5 point came under my stand in a hedgerow . Although I could count the 5 points , it was small . I couldn't take a shot as I had vegetation in front of me for cover . As he started away I started to draw . Hardly had a chance to put any tension on the string and he bolted off . As I was leaving towards dark an 8 point came across the field that I was walking through .
At least I saw a bunch ............

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I drove to a hunting spot about 50 miles away in South Bristol yesterday . Was in my stand long before light . I saw a couple bucks at a distance and then a small racked 5 point came my way . He was walking slow and I couldn't get him to stop . I took the shot and didn't lead him enough . I got a complete passthrough with the Rage 2 . He took a few steps and wagged his tail , took a few more and did the same . He stood on the path for quite a while doing the tail wag . He laid down about 80 yards up the trail . I waited 1 1/2 hours , took a look and he was gone . I checked my arrow . It was bright red with no bad smell so I may have got his liver but not his guts . I waited another half hour and started looking . Started out with some decent blood , nothing major . Lost the trail where he got to a 5 way junction . I was getting all tore up with the darned thorns . Tried each one and gave up after searching for almost 4 hours . I was searching on some property that I shouldn't have been on and thought I was pushing my luck . It was getting late and I figured I had done enough damage for one day . This is the 1st deer I have lost in probably 10 years . I would rather have missed than lose a deer . I had a doe come up on my right side and couldn't take a shot the tether strap for my HSS was in the way . Gotta put the anchor strap much higher ! Live and learn ...... I saw 3 bucks , 7 doe , 2 hen turkeys and 3 gray fox .

Hunted a spot in Walworth on a friend's property this past Thursday and Friday mornings . Saw a 6 point Thursday but nothing Friday . Hunted Geneseo Friday . Saw 8 doe and two hen Turkeys . I had a couple doe within 20 yards of the stand I was in but they were off to my right and a bit behind . I didn't want to spook them by moving but they didn't cooperate . It would have been a heck of a long muddy drag to get one out of where I was at ..... Going to try Mendon tomorrow .

FastEddie Shoots - He Scores ........yeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaa !
The beast is dead . long live the beast ! Shot a buck at 8:15 this am in Mendon . Spotted him out at over 200 yards . He was downwind and came my way at a fairly brisk pace . He stopped at roughly 100 yards and had his nose in the air . He kept coming and when he got to some brush , I stood up . He was heading into the field so I drew my bow and when he stepped out , I aimed a tad bit ahead of him as he was walking (learned a lesson from last time I shot) and double lunged him with a pass through . He had 5 points and almost 6 but it wasn't long enoug to count . Good body size . He ran down the field about 60 yards , stopped and turned , wobbled , fell down and did the Ted Nugent Death Kick . My arrow was stuck in the ground 35 yards from the stand I was in . I paced off where the buck was standing and got 35 yards . Practicing from the stand during the summer paid off . Rage 2's do an awful nasty job on a deer .
