10-27-09 Not being able to hunt Mondays and Tuesdays sucks!!! But I love my wife and she needs the rest so I have to be here to watch my son and get my daughter on the bus. Anyways I had to run something up to my FIL today as he is leaving for his hunt in Colorado tonight. I ran up and pulled my trailcam card and was surprised at all the action this week. Here are some of the different bucks: Ol devil horns A 4pt or 5pt that made the scrape- Look at his belly, what a porker A larger 4pt showing the camera what he thinks of it The Big 5 The Big 5 from the back And this is the coolest picture of them all. Its a bobcat. Its hard to see but it really is. The neighbors were telling my FIL that they had seen one twice in the last week walking through during the day and evening. As he is telling me this I am flipping through the pics on my camera and say yup, here it is. Thought that was pretty neat.

Lol Fletch - It would be cool to see him in person but can't take him as a trophy:( 10-29-09 Got out for 2 hours this morning. Things were slow yet again and no deer spotted while on stand. I decided to drive by the area I will be hunting with my neighbor in the morning. I'm glad I did. About 300 yards from where I will be in a stand there was a doe and a really nice 6pt standing feeding at 11:15am. I stopped the car and snapped some pics and the doe started to move. That buck then proceeded to chase her full speed into the woods. I pulled forward and watched them some more and then looked back in the filed and here comeas another small buck tracking the doe. He is running all over the place sniffing at the ground. The 6pt sees him and is about to confront him in the filed when the doe crosses in front of my stopped car. Well that buck didnt want to lose his girl so he bounded across the 2 lane road only touching pavement once. Was an awesome sight to witness and capture a few pictures. I'll post them up later.

10-30-09 AM hunt I went out with my neighbor this morning to his bow hunting spot. We have 2 stands up there so we figured why not give it a shot. Got in the stand around 7am. The breeze was picking up but it was still warm out. At 730 I hear the leaves rustling so I grab my bow and here comes a buck full steam ahead, with his nose straight to the ground. He came in to around 60 yards, made a big loop and ran back up the hill as fast as he came in. Stayed out until 10am as my neighbor had some other things to do today. No other deer sighted but we did find a fresh rub between our stands so we are going to give it a go tomorrow morning. PM I ran some errands and then headed out to the inlaws.I was in the stand by 3:40pm. The wind was gusting but then it would stop to almost nothing. When I was walking in I said to myself, if the scrape is cleaned out, sit in the ladder stand, if not, sit in my hang on. (the scrape is closer to my hang on) Well the scrape was covered in leaves so I said I would sit in the hang on. About 4:30 I was looking to my right back in the woods. I heard something to my left towards the ladder stand. I look and here is a buck that snuck in only 10 yards behind the ladder. He walked RIGHT UNDER the stand. I wanted to cry. He looked to be a small buck from the side until he got in the field by the crabapple tree. Then I knew who it was, the Big5 from the pics above. With my bow in hand and leg a shaking, he was headed towards the scrape. I drew back as he started to move forward and he needed 1 step to clear a small branch and it was go time. Well he turned 90 degrees and walked away with that branch blocking any shot for me. I couldnt believe it. He was heading for the house and turned into a small scrub field. He then cirlced me upwind as he came in downwind of me. I grunted a few times and bleated with the can. He stopped and rubbed a tree for about a minute. Grunted again. He came out of the Autumn Olive and was headed back to the deeper woods but stopped at 40 yards out. I mouth bleated at him and he stopped. I then grabbed my tube and gave him a few short grunts. No response. I had to think quick and all I could think was a snort wheeze with my mouth. Well that was the wrong answer. His tail flew up and he darted out of there not to be seen the rest of the night. The whole ordeal lasted about 15 minutes and I was crushed. After I beat myself up about stand choice and the snort wheeze I chalked it up to another learning experience. At least I didnt try to force a shot as I have when I first started. Was a great encounter and hopefully he will be back again and that I didnt educate him too much. Out of the stand by 615pm. Haven't added my hours up but it was close to 30 on stand and I finally saw 2 deer in 1 day and both were bucks. Things are finally looking up. I have the same hunt plans for tomorrow so we will see how things turn out. Here are the pics from yesterday of the buck in the field chasing the doe at 11am. They were a little ways out and I had to zoom through the window of the car so forgive me for the quality. The doe in the brush Guarding his lady about 15 yards behind her

10-31-09 All Hallows Eve Went out with my neighbor again. Found the start of a nice rub line so we decide to hunt up there again this morning. We swapped stands and I got the hang on stand in the pine tree vs. the ladder stand I had yesterday. The term "hang-on" had more than one meaning today as I learned quickly. That wind was incredible up there. The stand is 14 to 16 feet high and my usual is around 10ft. I didn't get sea sick and it was a nice stand to hunt from. Was in the stand by 7am. No deer sighted by either of us this morning. Out of the woods by 945am. Met a fellow bowhunter named Dave who was hunting across the road from where we were. He didnt see anything either. Had thoughts of going out this afternoon but the boss put the squash to those thoughts. Too much going on with the kids, dinner, trick or treating, company coming over, so it looks like the morning is the next chance. 30 hours and 15 minutes in the tree thus far and 2 deer sighted. LOL and you thought you had it bad a few days ago Fletch!!!!

11-1-09 Got out with my neighbor again today. We hadnt seen much in 2 days so thought with the cooler temps they would be moving early. Well they were. It got light quick and we saw 4 does on the way to our spot. Was on stand by 6:15, a little late, and it was super quiet. Stayed out til 9:15 and nothing sighted but tons of squirrels.
Decided to drive by his gun hunting camp area. As we get near the gate, he sees a 6pt feeding not 10 feet from the road. We drive back by him and decide we will try a spot and stalk. We got our stuff out of the truck under this bucks watchful eye from about 30 yards away. He paid us no mind. SO we just walked away from him in hopes to get parallel to him. Well it was so thick so we headed back to the truck. AS we get there, my buddy says go back go back hes coming. So I walk fast but not fast enough down the powerline road but was about 30 yards too far back and around a small bend so I never saw him.
We get back in the truck and start to head home and as we are leaving I spot the buck again. So we tried one more time to set it up. He dropped me off 200 yards down the road and I slipped in the woods and he went to the other end and walked to me. And that there folks was my 1st and 2nd failed stalk with the bow.
Have a job interview tomorrow so I wont be able to get out. Tuesday have a field trip with my daughters class, and Wednesday afternoon my wife has an appointment. I may get out Wednesday morning. Things should look up here soon, I hope.

Well I was sitting here watching the Giants get their asses handed to them and then Brett's return to Green Bay when my phone rang. It was my neighbor who went up to hunt the ladder stand at my in laws. The first words out of my mouth were, buck or doe? He had the small racked 5 come in and it was too perfect for him to pass up. He starts indoor track this week and footbal just finished (he coaches both for high school) so he wasn't sure how much more he would get out. Heres how he told the story. He was to the stand by 2:30pm. It was still leaning a little so he decided to move it to the side of the tree. At 4pm he heard a deer coming in the leaves. He spotted it but it headed towards the house next to the woods. Something scared it so it entered the wood line about 30 yards from the ladder stand. He was on a small deer run and ended stopping behind the stand at 8 yards to look around. The 125 grain broadhead found both lungs and the deer ran 17 yards and started wobbling. That was it. Fell dead right there next to a main trail. He isnt the youngest deer out there and he isnt the oldest but he was decent size. Here are the before and after pics: Before After

Well I cant go hunting in the morning but its a good thing. I had an interview Monday and it went well. I drove home and an hour and half later they called me back for a second interview tomorrow morning at 930. Heres to hoping things work out for the best. If my wifes appointment gets done early enough I may sneak out in the afternoon but I'm not feeling the greatest, The whole family is sick. Not good.
