Important fact #1 black cat crossed in front of truck Friday evening the 13th.
Day 1
Stand #1 state land. Had fought with myself all week about my aproach to this stand if I would jump deer in the field going in. Well I did about 60 yards from my stand. No daylight sightings. It is now an afternoon stand only.
Afternoon found me behind the inlaws house with my climber. Got to the tree I wanted to be in and realized I forgot my pack. Back to truck. Back to tree. Spend 30 minutes looking in dirt for climber pin. Get up in tree finally. Nice and calm for about 30 minutes. Then big black cloud comes and wind are over 30 mph and sideways hail for about 10 to 15 minutes. Got down out of tree to early because of darkness I thought it was later! Watch broke! Still hunted out. 0 deer sighted. Did have 5 turkeys book past me.

Day 2.
Had no problem getting up to go hunting since it was 5am when I got back home from the ER! My 4 year old son got up to go to bathroom. Walked into the door handle and hit his eye. Was the first time I saw an eyeball bleed! He is fine now. No morning sightings was in same stand as last night.
Afternoon watch I was in stand 1 from Sat. saw one good size deer right before dark to far out to see well.

Day 4
Stand 3 out behind my house. Went out this am and sat in the rain for a bit. I have a primary scrape near this spot. It is torn up every year. All year long. As I was coming out I realized the brach was broke and was dead. So I spent some time cutting a new branch and setting it up over the site. I hope it works and they start hitting it. I am following a mowed path back out from a small old clover plot to the yard. I have golden rod and 2-3 year old growth to each side. I come past a pine and me and a small bedded buck see each other at the same time. We are about 10 feet from each other!! He decided not to stick around! Looked like 3 or 4 pointer. It was good to see one up close even if it was not a shooter. I did see two fresh scrapes under a pine tree just off the old plot. Smaller size track maybe the guy I jumped.

Day 5
AM Got out to stand 3 again behind the house. Jumped one on the way in. No other sightings. Need to start seeing some deer! Going to try a new stand tonight.
PM Back to the state land and went in a little deeper. Nice quiet night if a tad warm. About 6:10 or so I hear tires squeel and a bang. Saw no deer on watch. After I came out to truck another guy stops and asks me if I got one and is it just down the road? Sure enough the bang I heard was the end of a young 6 pointer meeting an auto. He was pretty mangled. Of course he was heading to the patch of woods I was in!!!

Day 6
Out in the afternoon for a bit. In stand 4 on my land not far from 3. It was raining lightly but I am not scared!! This stand is in a big pine that gives some rain protection. Fifteen minutes into watch I saw some deer about 100 yards out. It was a bit misty and hard to see good even with binocs. They were running back and forth in the rain. I saw them a few times and three at once. I am guessing a doe and two fawns but at that range??
I only watched for maybe an hour then it got real dark real quick and the rain picked up and I sneaked out of there.

Well back at it today. I was out this am for an hour saw 0. Did not feel good so I came in early. Got poison ivy and it was driving me nuts.
Pm out again for 2 hours back in my honey hole and again with a zero.
Last year at this time I had seen 6 different bucks, passed three shots and took a nice one! I am beginning to think smoking atracts deer!! I quit last January, this is the first season in 20 that I have not smoked. And I am seeing very little. Weather looks crappy all weekend too.
