Im definately in it and I want to win the prize.
Spoke to my buddy tonight. I had seen a rub yesterday that looked real, real fresh but I passed it off as preserved due to the cold weather. Well he said he checked by his bow hunting area and there were 2 fresh rubs made in the last day less than 30 yards from his stand. He set up his camera so maybe we can get a shot of whats making them and what time. We are going to try and hit it this weekend early morning as the doe have been coming through between 7 and 10 according to the landowner and then head to his camp on later on Sunday for some last ditch effort drives for the guys not wanting tag soup.
Should be the same plan for front stuffer weekend as well. Like was said in another post, that 2nd rut seems to be stirring with the rubs appearing this week. Good luck to all of you guys as well.

12-7-08 Sunday
The best laid plans always seem to go awry don't they. Got up at 7:15 to meet my neighbor by 8am. Just got dressed and my cell rings. He is sick and was up til 2am hacking. He appologized and I said no problem. I was dressed so I headed to the inlaws. I went the opposite direction of where I went Wednesday. This time I got up high, to the top ridge that I have access to. Man was it windy, but it was not very cold, at first. I found a great spot that I could see a low hardwood ridge leading to some pines, and then a large flat leading to another ridge behind me, with more pines to my left. It was a great spot I will have to visit again as this trip yielded no deer. I did see another hunter below me as I was moving along. I back tracked as not to disturb them and called it a day jst before 11. My folks were coming over so no sense in freezing out there.
Looking forward to muzzleloader even though I may only get 3 days to hunt, and half days at that. Hope you all had a good regular season, and from the posts, most of you have. I'll report back later in the week.

Thx fellas.
12-10-08 Woke up to 52 degrees and rain, YUCK!!!! Got my daughter on the bus and noticed the rain had slowed to a drizzle. Got on the puter and checked the radar. A little more rain and then a huge break and mostly cloudy. I got dressed and headed out to the in laws. I entered the woods and snuck up the hill side to a nice high ridge. I figured being as warm as it was that they may be up high feeding and then move into the pines below as the temps went down. Just as I got up on top, rain. Then it got a little heavier, and then it got dark, really dark. Next came the wind followed by sideways rain right in my face. What a treat that was. For the next 2 hours I snuck around walking and stalking and never put a flag up. I hit all the usual places they like to hide and nothing. Must be there was more pressure this year and they are hunkered in good or they are hiding on that posted land in all the tree tops as the property was logged after last season.
Well I took this Saturday off so the plan is to go out with my neighbor Saturday and Sunday mornings to fill some tags. Hopefully the plan stays together. If not I will be out there somewhere.

12-13-08 Saturday
Took a vacation day today so I could do some hunting and then do the "santa" shopping with the wife. Don't know what I was thinking on both accounts. Man was it cold cold cold this morning. I should've slept in but the wifes plans had me leaving the woods by noon so I had to be out there. Was with my neighbor and in the woods just before 7. We sat until 830 and that was enough. We decided to go check his bow spot and get some coffee. Jumped 3 bedded 15 yards from his stand.
Went back to other spot and met up with the gang (8 of us) and we waited for the straglers and finally got a drive started by 1115. Needless to say, I left after that 1 drive deerless. I was driving the 4wheeler back up the hill and had a ice coated branch hit right under my glasses and cut my nose and whacked my eye pretty good. That stung just a tad. Called my buddy later on and on the next drive one of the guys took a button ($25 fine - camp rule) so the day wasnt a total waste for all. Going to sleep in tomorrow as it is already 14 degrees and Im sure it will be lower in the morning. May get out later in the am.

Sunday ended up being a bust once again. With the lows dipping into the single digits Saturday night, my buddy called and said he wasn't going to go out early. Guess we both felt the same way and slept in. Spent the whole day with the family. Sad to see the season end and wished it was open tomorrow for my day off. I need to go unload my muzzleloader so I may go shoot in the morning depending on the weather. We are scheduled for another round of ice and snow starting tonight.
My brother in law called me Saturday night. Said he went out behind his house at 2pm Sat. and was hunting the ridge top. About 230, he saw a nice buck working past him. He lined up the sights and fired. Big puff of smoke and the deer started running towards him. The 8point stopped about 40 yards from him as it didnt know where the shot came from. He starts to reload, dumping in 2 pellets. He reaches in his pocket and grabs his primers and gets one out of the box. He then reaches for a bullet, and reaches again, and again. Guess what, he didnt have any. That buck stood there motionless for 3 minutes or more and all he could do is watch and laugh. I told him after I stopped laughing that Santa might bring him some speed loaders for Christmas. What an end to his season.
Well bunny season is next and maybe some grouse. I want to do some yote hunting but can never find anyone around here to go. I will have to keep looking. Doesn't look promising for ice fishing this year either as it warms up then gets cold, then warms back up again. I'll keep checking back and posting as well.
To everyone - Have a safe and Happy Holiday season.
