No hunting this weekend for me. My bil just got back from Ohio and the weather was warm, he had two encounters with shooters but couldn't close the deal. We will be leaving next Friday morning @ 5 to get to the cabin by 11. I always like bowhunting the day before gun, alot of people in the woods screwing around pushing deer.

Well here we are again, another year passes us by. It's funny how life takes you by the hand and leads you on your journey. This year at my cabin will be the start and the finish for a few hunters that have walked through its doorway. Zach, my friends son, started his hunting journey at the cabin this year. At 14 he bagged his first deer and reminded me alot about myself at a very young age. It was great to see the excitement and enthusiasm in such a young person. Unfortunately this year will be the last for my Father-in-law. A hunter all his life he no longer has the strength and balance to get around. At 80 years old one slip or fall could be very bad for his health so we must weigh the options. We will be driving him in on a quad to our "honey hole" hoping to take down the first deer that comes along. The beginning and the end, it's funny how that worked out this year. We are leaving at 4:30 am tomorrow will hit the cabin by 10 and we hope to be in our bow stands for one last shot by 1. Good luck to all my friends this weekend, I think the weather will be in our favor and I hope the hunting god's are looking down upon you! Most of all know what your shooting at and be safe! Burt

It was a good opening weekend. My brother connected with a doe in the morning and I shot a nice 4pt in the afternoon. I blew it when I was walking back in for the afternoon. I was walking down a logging road that is bordered by some pines and turned the corner and was confronted by a big buck that was just as surprised as me. He bolted I fumbled for the safety and unloaded killing some small trees. The deer went "hell bent for election" across my property and into some thick stuff. My neighbor saw him and said he was big. Next time I will be ready. My father-in-law had a good time and we laughed and ate real well. It was a good opening weekend!

Thanks Zemm. It's good to get a couple in the freezer. We found a place right by us that processes the deer. They did a great job on Zach's so we sent the other two over there. The 4pt I got was the second buck to come by me in a span of 5 minutes 2:30 Sat afternoon. 1st buck was a bit out of range but the second came in from a 100 yards to me doing some doe bleats, shot him at 20 yards!

Headed up Friday late afternoon. Hope to make the cabin by 11. My neighbor has been seeing them and he is trying his hardest to get his girlfriend a crack at one. She has shot three times at bucks but has missed, bad case of buck fever! We should have three guys hunting this weekend and we all have doe tags.

Hey guys, Had a good weekend at the cabin. My neighbor shot a real nice doe Sat morning, making hot dogs out of the whole deer!!! We had three guys at camp-man was it cold this weekend but not windy. Saturday afternoon about 4:20 I heard deer coming my way. I just couldn't pin point where. Below me were some pine trees and I caught a glimps of a deer so I knew they were below me. I waited about 5 minutes and one deer started walking up the hill. I thought it was a good size doe so I took aim and dropped it in its tracks at 30 yards. Well turns out that there were 5 deer down there. Probably should of waited to see more. 3 ran away after the shot but the forth just stood in the pines looking at the dead deer. This was a big deer and it just walked off. Turns out that the one I shot was a button buck. That is number 3 from my property. This button hit the scales at 105 lbs and has a swollen neck and had that strong rutting smell. When we pulled in Friday night around 11:30 we saw a monster walking from some fresh cut corn. He was headed right for my property but we didn't see him during day light hours. Was a real tall 10 pt, real nice deer. My brother had a small doe come by this morning but he let it walk. I noticed two fresh scrapes and new rub lines this weekend. I guess they are still at it. Will be back up for the smoke pole weekend. Burt
