Hey gang!! Well the season is fast approaching and I am getting really pumped!! I got a new bow about a month ago, a Diamond Marquis, and she shoots sweet. Way faster that the previous rig and oooh smooth and quiet!!
I did have one tag left from last year so I may try to get out on that tag for northern bow on the 27th or 28th more as a trial run.
I got a trail camera and got some nice pics in my woods. I am averaging 100 pics a week. I am too scared to move it to a couple public pieces I would love to get some pics on. I can not fathom losing a $300 worth of gear.!!
I wish you all a good safe and successful season. I am going to try to write a little more detailed entries this year but I am usually so wooped from hunting I get lazy!!

Well tomorrow is the first day of southern bow and it looks to be nice and cool. I never did get up north. The free days I had I went fishing with the old man one of them and the other day it was pouring so I watched football.
So anyhows here we are. I am planning to lay off the back yard property for the beginning of bow so it is not hunted out. I have some great pictures but since the apples are gone they are changeing patterns. I will move my cam today and moniter it.
I will be focusing on a couple of my other spots so we will see how it goes.

10/24am 31 degrees
What a nice cold opener! I can not remember getting that cold on the opener of bow! I saw one red fox early and nothing but squirrels after that. Bro saw zip as well.
pm 52 degrees
Sat in my stand for close to three hours. Half way down the tree in my climber one comes out right by me. I think it was a small buck. Bro and BIL both saw zip.
Not quite the start we were looking for but it felt great to get out. Usually do not do to hot the first week with the full moon and all but it was so cool I thought we may get lucky!

10/19am 28 degrees
Nice frost on the ground. In same stand as yesterday morning and a big zero. BIL and Bro zipped as well.
pm 54 degrees
Checked out a new area near one of my other areas. It is public land. Me and my BIL both saw zip. My brother saw two too far away.
We got stopped by DEC when we got out and he checked our licences and broadheads for legality. We all checked out and he verball confirmed to me the 2 blade Rage are fine the 3 blade Rage are not. He was pretty cool.
Boy I need some sleep. I will skip the am tomorrow and get out after work for a bit.

Well had a bit rough going. Got all the way into my backup climber at my spot. Read cheap Gorilla climber I got on clearance for $50 so if it gets stolen I won't die. Anyhows, I am searchin all my pockets and can not find the key to the chain lock! Take off half my clothes so I do not get hotter walking back out and decide to check pockets one more time and whew found it. So up I go and get set up and in my strip down left my release on the ground! Back down and up!! Finally get set up and watch for 2 hours and saw 6002 squirrels and chipmonks and one turkey besides me that is! I forget how bad the first week can be some years!!
And the beat goes on.....

I hear ya on the treerats. They are annoying. I had one jumping from branch to branch and decided to come down one and right onto my platform with me. I scared the acorns right out of that little guy when he stopped by my feet.
Get those jitters and errors out early and you will be ready for sure once primetime hits.

10/23 am 32 degrees
Got out behind the house for 2 hours. At about 7:30am had a small one up the ridge piddlin around for quite a while. He/she was real nervous acting and startled off. I noticed down to my right a couple flatheads heading up the ridge to the left out of range.
At 8:30 I hear a noise behind me and here come a nice 1.5 year old. 5 or 6 point. He went right down my trail, even stopped broadside at 25 yards with his whole head behind a tree for me! Not what I am looking for so let him keep right on going.
As he is about 100 yards away I notice movement way down to the right of him. More deer! Had two does and two fawns come out and come right up to the knob in front of me about 25 to 30 yards out. Let them go up the ridge. I do not want to scare all the does off and hog up this spot until they draw me in a big buck!!
The emails were rolling into the Blackberry I needed to pull out and get in to work. Yik.

10/23 pm 51 degrees
Got out late again do to work and another conference call. Pfffft.
Went out behind the house for an hour and a half. Saw one off to my left out quite a ways at about 5:40. It was bounding along but I do not think it was sartled by me. Then on the way out I bumped one on the trail. Likely the one I saw earlier. It was dark so I "deered up" my walking to sound like a deer and stopped and stamped. And then I blew a couple of times going out to maybe make the deer think it was another deer. I am good like that!! lol Crack me up.
Finally got into the deer today. 9 deer seen while on stand. Thats what I'm talkin about! I am fired up to get out after work Friday.

I did not hunt Friday but was out setting up a couple stands with my BIL for Saturday.
Wow Saturday was wet!! Got up to rain so called the BIL and we did not hit our stands but met a bit later to do some scouting. We spent 3 hours checking out some new territory and getting soaked. Did see 2 deer not sure what they were.
10/25pm 54
Got out behind the house when the rain slowed down at 5pm it waited to pick up again at 5:15 after I was set up. Hung out in it for an hour but no luck.
Tomorrow looks drier.

Sat am 40's
Spent 2 hours in a stand I set up yesterday and it was a bust. This stand site is officially removed!
Sun. pm
Spenty 3 hours in the stand. I saw zero deer but just about the coolest thing I ever saw in the woods!!
I am in my tree stand and I hear a rooster pheasant cackle and turn around to see a pheasant coming by me in the treetops. He skims off a few different branches and a couple feathers fly off. All the sudden behind him here comes a bird just pop him about 40 yards in front of me right outa the air! I am not sure what the bird was. He was no bigger than the pheasant and dark and maybe a bit of light colored under the neck. It was real fast. Maybe a coopers hawk? Anyhow they separate as they fall and the pheasant hits the ground and the hawk(?) lands right on him. What a kill!! They landed about 60 yards from me and he stayed there eating that bird for an hour until I got down and was on my way out at dark. I have seen hawks dive and stuff after game and even once saw one hit a rabbit on a golf course but first time I saw a mid air attack. Awesome!!
