Thanks guys! Sat morning a shooter buck chasing a doe could not stop them. Saw one other hog of a doe that blew at me 50 times, she gonna see some lead this year! Sunday saw two small bucks 4pt and a 6 pt, again another hog of a doe came by and screwed with me, she gonna see some lead this year! Made the ride home in 51/2 hours not bad, as I was getting close to the GWB there was a bunch of does feeding out right close to the road off of the Palisades!

My nephew shot a nice 7pt this morning. The deer was all infected from a gash running down its side so he couldn't keep the meat .

Yea sorry to hear about your nephew. Had a buddy shoot a 7 pt this year. One side was nice and a full 4 the other side was tiny 3 points all contourted and such. He went to butcher it and the neck stunk! Thinks it got hit by a car in the spring. If it was in velvet the tines could have broke and it would have still ossified into bone.

Thanks, My nephew really uses all the meat when he shoots one. He took a picture of the gash so I will see it this weekend. I am just looking forward to getting away, the mood at work is pretty bad now, they just announced layoffs and it could go as high as 600 workers. Every hour at work you get an email from the top brass announcing the retirement of some top executive or should I say push out of some top executive. The shoe will fall for the rest of us in about two weeks. The publishing business is not what it used to be. Good luck all! BC "Team Legend"

No business is like it used to be Burt, thats for sure. We'll have to see who gets in the Whitehouse first before panic sets in. I went through the same thing back in December 2006. Lost my job due to middle management cuts six days after Christmas. Wish it had been around October or November so I could've hunted more but oh well. I searched and searched and finally landed a better position with more pay and an oppourtunity at running the place within a few years. I know the whole situation sucks but keep your chin up.

Thanks joel and Zemm! What a weekend!!!! Two of us at the cabin from Friday afternoon till Monday morning. Wind was from the NNE most of the time with cool temps and frosty mornings. My brother in law sees 6 different bucks and one was a good shooter 120 (class buck) at 15 yards. He is a lefty and could not get his bow around and the deer bolted. We have a pine thicket that borders a field of goldenrod. The does bed in the pines and the bucks this weekend were seeking them in this area. Well my stands weren't great for this wind so my deer sightings were down to 4 doe for the weekend until this morning. I had one of those moments that only come a few times in your life. I switched stands and went up a ladder stand that bordered the goldenrod at the bottom of the field. My brother in-law is at the top over a food plot that borders the pine thicket. Well at 7:30 he looks over his shoulder and sees a rack moving through the pines. It was a huge huge buck, seeking does walking down a run nose to the ground. The deer was 50 yards from him so no shot. Well I turn in my stand and look up at the edge of the pines and see this guy come out. I thought I was dreaming, his rack was huge! I have a BC deer that I got back in 99 and it scored 135, this buck had to go 160 +! He comes out and heads right down the middle of the field on this run, he is getting closer to me and just getting bigger and bigger. Now I am at the bottom right corner and he turns toward me at 40 yards and stops. I say to myself if he continues on he will walk right under my stand. He moves forward and I almost pass out, a buck of a lifetime is walking right to me. Well he closes the distance but suddenly turns and heads down the edge of the field where I had no shot. He is no more than 30 yards and makes the wood line. I have one shooting lane and try to stop him but he continues. Now he is heading away from me and as quick as it started it was now ending. I grab my primos long can and give it a shot, he stops and tuns and walks parallel to me at 40 yards. This was a long one for me but he was broadside with a clear shot. He finally stops and I release and shoot under him by a foot He doesn't flinch looks my way and walks off! He was huge, more than a ten pointer with at least a 22" spread. Tines were nice and long with plenty of mass. I'm glade it was a clean miss, and maybe 40 yards was a bit too long but a broadside shot and the deer being so big I had to do it. You don't see many like this around so it was a real treat! Maybe next weekend they are definitely seeking right now and the smaller bucks are chasing does. It's just like fishing, if you caught fish all the time they wouldn't call it fishing they call it catching! I hope all of you guys at one point get to see a giant like this, it is truly beautiful!

joel, You live that shot over and over again thinking what went wrong? I needed everything to go right, I think I dropped the bow when I released. That deer owned the woods he was so confident. When I met up with my brother in-law I just looked at him and said how big? (I knew he had to see him the way he came), he said 160+, I just said easy 160! The deer also had a strong looking body, no sagging at the belly, maybe a 3.5 year old.
