What an exciting adventure Burt. Sorry the deal didn't get closed this time but there is time left so stay at it. I'd crap my pants if I saw a buck that big for sure. I get all shakey from a 90 to 100 class 8pt for goodness sakes. Heck I even got the shakes the other night when my spike friend came out to see me. Glad to hear you had a good weekend.
I practiced that 40 yard shot a little this summer. I am not confindent in it maybe 60% worth but like you said, you have to try it if you think you can. If it was me, I would've tried from what you described. I only missed the target once at 40 and ended up killing my shed at 45 yards.

Thanks Zemm! I will give it another try next weekend, this buck had one thing on his mind a hot doe. The doe must of came thru before light and he was tracking them. So are you by Owego? If so I pass on by every time I go to Howard. I'm at exit 35 about 1 1/4 hours past you. Nice hunting by you.

Actually I am the exit just before Owego, Exit 66 Apalachin. You will see the Blue Dolphin Diner and the Sunoco. I live on the street right behind them both. Just before that exit you will see a Kwik Fill gas station and a small firehouse. The field next to the firehouse is where I hunt, up at the top of it.
I've been past Howard before but it has been awhile so I am sort of familiar with where it is.

Have eaten at the Blue Dolphin! Hey that is pretty close, I will look for the field next weekend. My place is 3 miles from the exit-make a right and take that road to Avery Road and my cabin is about a mile in. Not much to do in Howard, one nice cafe that is owned by some real friendly people who helped me out since owning the place. I really love it up that way, my Brother in-law comes from Burdett which is just above Watkins Glen. I hope to move up that way in the future, maybe even to the cabin and expand it. We should try to hook up one day when I come through and trade stories!

Yes it does have a motel just behind it. It is now a Quality Inn but once was the Blue Dolphin Motel. The owners of the Diner are really nice. I take the family there once every 2 months or so. The Blue Dolphin Burger is the best on the menu and the club sandwiches are great. Not to mention the Greek desserts. Let me know when you are headed through and Ill see if I can drop in to say hi for sure.

I got family in syosset LI. I used to travel down there a couple times year. I don't get down that way too much more with work and school. Im from buffalo. I hunt out near attica. Attica has the big jail out there and its the only landmark around there to give.

very cool, I pass thru Syosset by train coming from huntington, not too far. Buffalo, you guys had some heavy snow this year? Great buck you got!
BTW the layoffs started yesterday and they went right to the top and laid off my boss the Managing Editor of the magazine. He is a great guy that loved the staff and would do anything for them. The word was they wanted to take the magazine in a new direction. More layoffs today and the big day is Monday. We have a staff of 35 and have to save close to a million bucks this year so we may have to cut at least 5 more people, this really sucks.

Burt - what magazine do you work for, just curious. And my thoughts are with you in hopes that you make it through the cuts.

Zemm, Watch out for those Kamikaze deer they get a hunter or two every year.lol I work for Time Warner in the news and business group. The magazine I work for is Money Magazine. We met the new managing editor today who actually worked for the magazine a few years ago, a friendly face. I am the Editorial Close director, I basically make sure everyone makes there deadlines and keep everything moving along. The new guy said our magazine may not get hit as hard as the other ones. I hope he is right. We sold 2 years ago the division of magazines that included Outdoor life and Field and stream. It was really cool because I started to talk to Todd Smith the managing editor at OL, he was really cool and told some great stories. Thanks for the encouragement. I am not going up this weekend but will be up next Thursday thru Sunday.

kpkot, Yes that would be Time Warner cable. We sold that or should I say spun it off as its separate entity last year. Big changes coming for us.
