I had a similar thing happen last weekend Fletch... a flock of birds decided to camp out in the tree above me. About ten minutes later I noticed it started to rain until I looked at my jacket and realized it wasn't rain but I happened to be in the public restroom for birds. Lets just say my parents were not happy when i decided to go to their house instead of mine to wash my clothes. And speaking of being scared, last year I stepped on a partridge in about a foot of snow, I have never screamed so loud in my life it sounded like an Apache helicopter taking off underneath me. It gets scary out in those woods alone

Its weird cuz Friday night I heard an owl and then saw another as the original hooter was still hooting up on the hill. Then I saw one tonight as well. Very large birds indeed. This is only the 3rd time Ive ever seen one in the wild.

I have seen a lot of owls bow hunting. The coolest are the snow owls. First time one ever tried to eat me though! 11/6/09 am 33 degrees Hunted out behind the inlaws house. Sat in stand for 3.5 hours. It spit snow off and on but the ground is to wet and warm for any to stick. I was a few minutes late getting in. Snooze was too tempting this morning! At 7am I see something coming down towards me from up the hill on the other side of the creek. It is a deer comin at a good pace. It stops down by the creek and I can see it is a buck. No shootin for me. He proceedes to work right up to me and walked through two shooting lanes broadside at 20 yards. He goes past and catches a wiff of Trophy Blend deer scent I have out and he turns right around and walks right up to like 12 feet from my tree with his nose stuck straight out. Then he turned and jumped off a few steps and then walked about 40 yards and rubbed his antlers in some branches and scraped a small spot. He was a decent 2.5 year old 8 point. Too bad one of the bros was not out here this morn! Saw the usual red squirrels, grey squirrels, black squirrels, ducks in the beaver pond, and a beautiful red tailed hawk. Dang it stick snow!! Be back out in a couple hours.

11/6 pm 38 degrees Out behind the house down past my ladder stand in my climber. Absolutely nothing until just when I was starting to get my gear together to get down and crash crash...... You should know the story by now.... Out comes a nice big deer, pretty sure I saw some rack as well.....and behind it my two favorite dogs. I hollar at them and they stop and turn and run. At least I got them off the buck. He was not runnin too fast. Wonder if he was tired or just new they could not catch him? Called the dog control again.... He says he thinks he knows who owns them and will visit them tomorrow. This is gonna get ugly soon.

10/7am 27 degrees wowa a bit cold this morn! Had a beaut of an eight point at 12 yards at about 9 am. I will elaborate on story later it is a hoot! Walked up another 3 sneakin out another buck a spike or 3 a flathead and the third not sure. No buck tag so all I can see is bucks! Ok so I have time to write this now. So my BIL, brother and I are all out. About 8:30 my BIL gets busted by a nice buck with tall tines. I know this cause I called him to see what time he was sitting till. It is now about 9, he says he is freezin and got to pee so he is getting down. I call my bro and he does not answe but texts me that he can not talk a tall tined buck is in front of him. So I figure I might as well stay for a bit longer, prob is I gotta pee bigtime as well. So I got an empty soda bottle and I am 25 feet up a tree peeing into the bottle when I hear snap and off to my left a deer is comin in. Oh crap! So I pinch off, screw top on bottle and set that down. Grab my bow, stuff still hangin out then I see antlers. Well can not shoot that. Came in perfect 12 yards broadside. Real nice tall tined 8 point. The same deer went within 20 yards of all 3 of us! We are like 500+ yards apart of each other. Neither of them could get a clear shot at him! I could of pissed on him he was that close.

11/9 am 46 degrees
Out behind the house in the ladder stand. At 645 I had one come right into me. It was a flattop but not too big. I could not distinguish if it was a button. I am not good on small alone deer judging size! So to be safe I let it walk. Had it at 15 yards broadside.
Well it was a doe!! About 20 minutes later I see a deer coming at a decent trot on her trail. A goofy lookin 4 point doggin her trail he was all over in front of me trying to sort her out of the deer scent stick I had out. He was within 10 yards of me a couple times. He got it sorted out and off he went.
Sat until 9:30 and it was already in the 50's so I booged out.

11/10am 46 degrees Well this morn was the morn to be in the woods! And my son is home sick so I had to be in at 8:30 so the wife could go to work. I am out in the ladder stand again. Usually I do not hunt this so hard but it does not seem to be bothering it! And with the dogs as well. So overhunt it I will. At 6:50am I see one coming in I see it is a spike when he gets about 30 yards from me. He keeps coming and stops looking dead into the brush behind me. I then hear footsteps back there and the one in front of me puffs up and rakes the ground a few times and starts walking to the brush. I swear he must not realize he is a little spike! I see the one behind me as he come out into an opening. I think he is the 1.5 7 point. He is raking his antlers in a bush and the two stare each other down and the spike thinks better of it and walks a bit away. The 7 walks right by me at 20 yards going the way the spike came. Well it is staying cooler today and I wish I could sit all day but can't. It is beautiful out and I can feel it in the air! Anyhows I am getting my gear together and I hear steps and look over and see one along the pines. I see antlers so I have the bow in my hand but keep it lowered because I can not shoot a buck. He starts working my way and I have my wifes digital cam in my pocket because I am trying to get a pic of those dogs. So I see it is a decent buck and figure I will get his pic. So he is workin right towards me 60, 50, 40 I am waiting for him to get clear and watchin the little screen on the cam. So I never really check him out good. Well he comes out in the clear at 30 yards and stops. I got him in the cam and snap the pic and the battery dies and no pic! shoot I now look at him and realize he is big, real arfin big!! I see 8 maybe 10 points and I would guess 16 to 18 inches wide and a couple points went 10 inches!!!! I do not know if he saw me move or just did not like somethin but he spun around and took two jumps back and the just walked off real slow not spooked like. He looked just as impressive walking away! He never looked at me. I could have killed him dead if I had a buck tag!! And I am really pissed I did not get a pic and also that I did not get a very good look at his rack. Biggest buck I have seen back there and the biggest I have seen in 4 years, one of the top 3 or 4 ever for me. Man I wish I was out all day. Who knows how many I could have seen!! I need to go find a doe, these bucks are drivin me crazy!! I can not help myself from being back in there in the morn!!

Sounds like you had a heck of a morning. Whenever you want me to come warm the seat up on that ladder stand, just say the word brother. I can be there in about an hour and a half max.
